    Experienced traders......

After a long time of thinking about it I decided to start beer trading about a month ago. I figured I would get burned eventually, part of the game I guess, but I didn't figure it would be this soon. My first 5 trades went on with no problems and I plan to continue trading.

Trade button was accepted on 5/5 with another member who has 40+ trades and a 100% rating. I put my stuff in the mail last Friday and it should arrive today. I've not heard from this person since last Wednesday (5/6) nor have they logged on to BA since that time. I have no confirmation number nor do I know if he ever shipped. I texted the number that they gave me this morning and have not heard back. I was planning on calling him this evening after I get confirmation that his package was delivered safely to see if I could talk to him. Any other suggestions on what to do?

    Thanks!

If they haven't logged on to BA at all there could be a legitimate personal issue that's tieing them up at the moment. I wouldn't panic yet and give them a little time to get back to you via phone

That was a thought I had too. In my text message to him I told him I hope everything was fine. I wanted to make sure he knew I wasn't mad, just concerned that I hadn't heard from him. I don't want to get screwed on the deal, but I also hope everything is fine on his end.

I agree with @mps , maybe something came up and they aren't able to respond yet, especially with have 40+ trades. With that said I hope everything works out for you, and everything is ok with your trade partner.

Don't hit the panic button yet, if you don't hear back from him sometime this weekend then I would send another text or two letting him know that unfortunately you'll have to start a bad trader thread.

I know it sucks no matter what beers were involved but hopefully you're not out anything too "big". Keep us up to date, if it's something I happen to have I may be able to help my northern rival out.

With 40 trades there is an excellent chance that someone here has either traded with him or knows somebody who has.

The 1st thing I'd do is contact people who have recently left fb & see if they can give you any help. Look too for people he's traded with multiple times. They're more likely to know him better & might be able to provide additional info or insights. I'd also look for fb indicating ip trades. If they're local they can possibly provide additional help contacting him.

If none of these help you to reestablish contact, please supply his user ID, so that others on BA can help you. Your concerns for his well being are valid. At this point sharing his ID isn't tantamount to a 'public shaming'. Nor is it starting a bad trader thread.

Overwhelmingly the people here are more concerned with other people & their well-being than the beer however delicious that beer is. Please let us know what you find out.

Like others have said, I think it is a little early to panic or post a bad trader thread. Communication is the biggest thing with trading so it kinda sucks you haven't heard back from him. Just curious...how long has he been a member of BA?

I'm facing the same problem. I made a deal for shipping this monday. I kept my word and shipped last saturday, but i don't get any message back. Not even a word that Some personal things came up.

I don't get it these days. Is it to hard to spend 1 minute to send a message how things are with shipping?? Everybody has internet / smartphone these days.

It's just a lazy attitude. It's the same thing as when i'm sick, i have to call my boss that i'm not going to work. You can't just stay home without any notice.

We're talking about a lot of money on international shipping and beer here!

He's been a BA member since 2005. I contacted the person he has had multiple trades with and also the 2 people he traded with last to try and get some more info. We will see what happens with that. If that doesn't work I'll post him SN and maybe we can get to the bottom of this. I hope he is ok.

It really depends on the situation i.e death in my immediate family last thing on my mind is going to be "oh let me log on BA". People do have lives and things they deal with in their everyday lives besides be on BA ...

In those extreme cases you're right. However, it's rarely due to a death in the family, unexpected hospitalization, coma, serious injuries etc. Almost always it's someone slacking or someone with a much more minor crisis who just didn't bother to communicate.

All too often there's a pattern of someone who has a habit of delayed shipping & poor communication. It's amazing how these poor, overwhelmed souls find their way back online & hasten to explain once they've been named in a bad trader thread. It's equally amazing how many of the same people that can't take care of current business have time to line up new trades.

Is this the situation with the mystery trader the OP is concerned about? That's impossible to know right now. Whatever the problem is, I hope that it's very minor, easily fixed & that the trader, his family & friends are ok. It seems unlikely that someone with 40+ trades who's been registered for ~10 yrs would simply disappear in a wash of stolen beer.

He emailed me late Thursday night. Said he was dealing with some personal issues. He also said he didn't have any of the beer that he said he did and they were sold out at the store of what we agreed to trade. He said he put a package in the mail on Thursday afternoon that should arrive to me on Monday and that I should be happy when it arrives.....so we shall see. Hope its worth the KBS and Prairie I sent him.

So he sent you a box containing zero beers he had agreed upon? Am I reading this correctly?

I'm honestly not sure. We had originally agreed to trade 3 different beers. Before the trade button was pushed he said he couldn't find 2 of the beers but he had 2 other ones that I said were fine. Then the trade button was pushed I sent my beer and don't hear from him for over a week. I hear from him Thursday night and he says the two beers that were agreed upon to replace the original beers he didn't actually have and were unavailable but that I should be happy when my package arrives. So...i think i'm getting a 1 of the 3 beers that we agreed upon and some other stuff? At this point I'm just glad something is coming my way. So we shall see on Monday.

Was the fact that the beers weren't in hand discussed at the beginning of the trade? This whole situation stinks. What were you supposed to receive? I want to try to make this right by yoU if I have any available.
This whole situation stinks like bad trader. I would out them, and most certainly would not leave good feedback.

It seems, in my opinion, that this trader might be taking advantage of this situation with the 'reputation' they have through their large number of trades. The issue with not sending the agreed beers is troubling. Just my two cents...

He's been dishonest throughout this ordeal. He should have made it very clear to you that he didn't even have the substitute beers that you agreed to accept. He shouldn't have expected you to ship until he did have them. Hell, he should have asked that you withhold shipping until they were in hand. He should have conferred with you about what beers, if any, would be acceptable substitutes when he failed to procure even the initial substitutes. Sheesh.

Out him. He has shown himself to be untrustworthy. The community deserves to know who he is.

@blue-dream this schmuck is really looking like a bad trader. Should the thread be moved to the bt forum?
