I started craving Nugget Nectar like crazy today. The juicy grapefruit-pine balanced against toasted sweet malts, the thick creamy mouthfeel...I love everything about that beer, and I regret not buying more of it when it was fresh. Can anyone else recommend an excellent hoppy amber/red ale that's similar that I can get year-round?

Keep an eye out for Laguanitas Imperial red. It comes out in july. I think you will enjoy it.

For me my favorite red ipa/hoppy red is blazing world from modern times. 99% sure you'll have to trade for it but its a shelf beer in so cal so it's not a problem. Great thing is they are can dating now too.

Not sure if its similar but red wheelbarrow from MBC is a great hoppy red.

Fatheads Bonehead is awesome if you can get it. It's not year-round but it's still available around here right now

First time I tried Maine Zoe I thought it was similar to NN. Good in its own right, but in the same ballpark.

Sadly, most of these are not within my distro. However, I do occasionally see Maine Beer Co. beers, so I'll keep an eye out for them.

Nugget Nectar is essentially a ramped up version of Hopback Amber Ale- maybe that could be your 'summer' version .

After recently having fresh MBC Red Wheelbarrow, I have to say it blows NN out of the water. It's year round, so maybe you get lucky. Cheers!

If you can get your hands on it, I'd give Bucolia a try from Bissell Brothers. It's a hoppy amber ale that's very tasty.

Sixpoint's Global Warmer is a great Hoppy Amber/Red Ale, grab some when it hits the shelf.

A pretty good imperial red in pretty wide distribution is Oskar Blues Gordon (per a litigation compromise, now known as "G'Knight"). I'm not saying it tastes like Nugget Nectar because it's been ages since I had a Nugget Nectar, but it does have ample hops (pine over grapefruit, to me) and a good malt base. I don't get a particularly creamy mouthfeel from it though, so it won't totally match OP's NN experience. Vive la difference!

I recently had Smuttynose Kindest Find and it's comparable. It's only available in bomber, but it's available right now. It's also a little stronger but it's basically the same style. I'll admit, I liked the NN a little more though.

Not really an IPA drinker...but I tried a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed last night and it fits your request!
Oops: Didn't read the part about red ale. Anyway, it tastes just the way you described, IMO.

I was going to suggest Hopback as well. That beer is awesome, and deserves more attention than it ever gets.

I must agree with several others here and recommend Troegs Hopback amber ale. Its one of my favorite year round beers thats easy to drink. Along with Founders All Day IPA I believe they are very underrated beers.
