I agree it is looking bleak, with that said i think the OP needs to decide if he is going to "out" this person. Or leave one last msg that he is going to "out" him… Pending "whats is the box?" Then we can move the thread and change the title.

@funke910 Be very, very certain that you are happy+++ with your mystery box. He owes you & owes you big from everything you've related here.

Regardless of how happy the box itself makes you, he handled this badly from the beginning. Lying is just wrong. Lies undermine the huge component of trust that trading requires. And then there's the substituted bottles which you never agreed to. Also his neglect in mentioning he was trading bottles he didn't actually have.

Frankly, this is a troubling situation no matter how good the box is. Think carefully of everything involved & how you actually feel about it.

@JavaNoire I will be. Thank you for you concern and advice in this situation. I am a bit worried that if I leave neutral feedback that will negatively affect me. He could possibly do the same back to me. I'm a new trader, but I am doing my best to be a good trader. having only 5 trades, I don't want the 6th to be neutral feedback.

If he leaves retaliatory feedback, he will be banned. Don't worry about that.

This is pretty lame. A veteran trader should know to not offer beers he doesn't have in his possession. I've had a couple people ask for easy to acquire local beers that I would have to pick up and I have always told them "ok but until these beers are in my hands I can't promise anything." Also, I feel like some newer traders get a little to eager to ship fast, and just assume there will be no probs trading with a veteran trader (ideally there shouldn't be but anything can happen) Regardless, I'll be eager to see what shows up on the OPs door, it better be some good stuff!

Also OP, I noticed you don't have any open/pending trades?

Yeah, there's just no way in heck, this should be neutral or positive feedback. Definitely negative no matter what's in the box. Just my opinion, take it for what its worth.

I don't see how anything but negative feedback can be left.

I think what's in the box will go a long way in determining if he's someone that thinks its okay to operate like this, or if he's normally a great trader who tried to cut some corners and burned himself. We're all human and mistakes get made, its how you recover from them that shows your character. For all we know there could be a BVDL in that box. In that case I think positive feedback would be warranted. Of course we all know there's not a BVDL in that box, and right now he does have a large hole to dig himself out of, but I think that he does have the opportunity to save face.

It's ultimately the OPs decision but I'm not certain lies can be redeemed that easily. Nor is it easy to
excuse substituting beers without obtaining the OPs consent to the switch. This is, without a doubt, an unholy mess.

@beernuts I'm not picking on you personally (thought I'd throw that out there first). You are completely right, we ALL make mistakes in life in one shape, form, or other. And you are also right in that how you handle your "mistakes" shows your character. Great traders don't get threads started about them on a public board, although the trader in question hasn't been named. Great traders make mistakes, but they recover through communication, professionalism, honesty, etc. Not by *lying*, *not by substituting beers that weren't agreed upon*, and surely not by *telling someone that they will be happy after this whole debacle*. What if the OP isn't happy with what he gets?? Surely we all will have an "audience opinion" as well.

Again, not picking on you personally, but you have (3) registered trades on this site that I can see personally....Is this how you want all your trades to go in the future? I guess if your hoping to score a BVDL (sarcasm). Whatever bottle or bottles he sends, shouldn't dictate whether its a positive trade or not. There's nothing positive about this whole thing, morally anyways. The trade feedback should be used properly, not people "buying" positive feedback by sending a package that wasn't agreed upon and telling someone they will be happy.

Mine is possibly a minority opinion but I can see how exceptional extras can go a long way in making up for excessive delays &/or communication that fell off some. Someone in another thread mentioned getting over $100 in high value beers once that were sent to apologize & make reparations. Again, I could be the minority, but it doesn't seem like most traders could afford to do that more than occasionally. Nor does it seem like it would become routine behavior for most traders.

When/if that happens, noting it in positive fb seems appropriate. Most traders don't have so much fb that reading it is a time consuming & onerous task. People can follow up with the person who left fb to get more details on what transpired.

I don't think the OPs experience fits that scenario because he was lied to, misled & deliberately taken advantage of. This is definitely not just another, 'gee I should have been more diligent, let me make it up to you' situation.

Honestly if the agreed upon ship date was 5/5 and I had heard absolutely nothing by EOD 5/5 or very early 5/6 I wouldve turned the box around. Communicating is key. I hope your box comes and is worth the hassle and stress.
