This reminded me of the Moutai I had at the Human Centipede 3 Premiere last night. Not sure if it was the beer, or the movie that was sparked by the statement.

On topic now, just picked up another Black House with Coconut and a Mount Remarkable on my lunch walk. What is the word on Mount Remarkable?

You guys see the IG post about the Rum BA MP variants? Looking forward to that.

Admittedly I don't know shit about Rum but I guess each different barrel should have its own unique characteristics.

and +1 on Mount Remarkable - very tasty stuff. I'm still missing Protocosmos though.

I loved Mount Remarkable, it was light and easy to drink. I could go for a 4 pack of cans during the middle of the summer.

I saw the Rum ones as well. I'm moving to Oregon in August so I'm hoping they have them out before then since they don't allow proxies.

Reading bizarre and nonsensical reviews of our beer comes with the territory. In our less than 2 years in business, I've heard everything, including: "Lomaland is more like a Belgian IPA than a saison" (it isn't even dry-hopped); "Blazing World has way too much crystal malt" (the malts are listed on the can; none of them are crystal); "Black House has way too much caffeine!" (we recently got it tested, there's almost no caffeine), etc etc...It's a part of the job.

I don't have any doubt that Monsters' Park Aged in Bourbon Barrels w/ Coffee is an absolutely world class beer, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's currently pulling a 4.37, so most people seem to agree with me. And the feedback from people I know and trust (including some of you!) has been unreservedly & extremely positive. So it's easy to ignore the outliers, especially when you have a group of people close to you who aren't afraid to tell you when something actually sucks.

Probably newbies and virgins who have no palates in this craft beer world. I know my IPA's and know what I like. Stouts as well. But when it comes to most other styles I'm still new to it. And I've been drinking craft since 07.

Xul is about as far from a newbie or a virgin as you can get. If he's picking up that quality, he's picking up that quality. I did not, and I suppose most people didn't, but a few others here have said they picked it up. Because none of them picked it up in the other variants, I'd guess it had to do with the coffee.

Yeah I still haven't picked it up on tap at release, on tap this weekend, nor in the couple bottles I have opened. So who really knows...either way..kinda want more.

If you did, it was on the other forum (in which case, good luck finding it), I posted about the fecal character on page 10 of this thread and didn't see you commenting on it after my post.

I'll grant that I can be picky about my coffee, and Modern Times' coffee usage in beer (and their coffee in general) has been hit and miss for me. I've had some that I thought were phenomenal, whereas I'm not a huge fan of their barrel aged beans as the ones I've tried gave off unbalanced woody notes to me and the spirit character can overwhelm the nuance of the beans. Jacob has commented on this in the past and obviously feels differently, and considering the success of their coffee club, he's clearly not the only one. I certainly will continue to drink their beer and will give future iterations of BA MP w/ Coffee a shot, because BA MP is fantastic and in general I like the Black House coffee blend that they used in the last bottling run of BA MP.

If nothing else, I think Modern Times is creating progress in how coffee and beer fit together in ways that will pay dividends down the road as far as a better understanding both of personal preference, as well as how various growing regions, roast profiles, and dosing regimens complement various beer styles and packaging formats. Ten years ago, no one on the consumer side had favorite hops, or considered how a given hop would fit into a style, or how quickly a certain hop will fall off. I'm not sure coffee will quite reach that level in beer, but if it does, Modern Times is likely to be one of the breweries that helped set the tone for that.

Count me as one that loved it. I've decided no more beer that is more than $1.50 an ounce (except sours) so Try to keep the price below thirty please. Curious though why not in the 750 bottle?

We have two different bottling machines: one for bottle-conditioned beer, another for force carbed beer. Our clean barrel-aged beers are force carbed, so they go into 22oz bottles, the same way our monthly special releases do. The purpose of a heavier, champagne-style bottle is to allow it to tolerate higher internal pressure. If pressure isn't a concern (and it usually isn't for force carbed beers since the internal pressure should not change after packaging, except in the case of an infection), a champagne-style bottle is usually just used for marketing purposes. I'm a pragmatic type, so I'd rather not use heavier, more expensive glass unless there's a practical need.

was just at Modern Times today. They have a double IPA on, Hoomooloo somethingerother. It's fucking delicious. Huge fruit notes. Followed it up with an Oneida which tasted much better than last year's batch. Cheers!

I have to say the cask variant was just not for me. It had a weird lemon zest nose that was nonexistent in flavor. I felt the sea salt was a bit overpowering, but meh, to each their own. I was super glad they didn't go all "stone-esque" on the chilis though.

Good enough for me. However I just think if a person is going to spend 30 dollars for a bottle of beer we should at least be able to use the world standard of a logical metric system to measur the prerogative amount of liquid.
