BA's, I know you are all partial to Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts and DIPA's, but what are some of your favorite offerings with a more subtle ABV? I mean in the range of session beers to about 6% abv.

Didn't read your OP, but going by your initial subject line of a beer in the 5% range, I'm really high on Jammer right now (4.2%).

Pretty much any Cellarmaker pale ale (Moonage Daydream, Dobis, Tiny Dankster), Fieldwork Canopy and Little Ships, Russian River Dribble Belt, Row 2/Hill 56, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald and Dortmunder Gold, Modern Times Fortunate Islands, Alpine Hoppy Birthday, Faction Pale, Deschutes Black Butte, Surly Bitter Brewer and Coffee Bender, Lagunitas Daytime, Firestone Walker Easy Jack and Unfiltered DBA, Sante Adairus Silver Lies, Pizza Port Ponto, Societe The Publican, Southern Tier Live... I guess I could go on and on with my love for sessionable beers, especially hoppy ones.

And they are replacing it with a beer labelled "Session IPA". Sigh.

The beer was perfectly good as is.

Wait - you put 5% in your title, but 6% in your post :astonished: - I think when you lean into 6%, you're not talking "session" (based on the current, trendy scale of things) any more...

Anyways, I'm just gonna take this opportunity to reiterate that I really don't get the session beer thing. It's what BMC's been doing all along.

Would you rather have one big, terrific cut of steak in one sitting, or a whole bunch of small, mediocre pieces of steak over time? I see the session drinking thing that way. I'm not saying they're awful, but just not my thing. And truth be told, knowing I can have several big, juicy terrific pieces of steak in a day, the concept of session steak just doesn't hold water  lol - I know, I know...

That said, I like @Mike_Aguirre's thinking - a Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier (or the like) has a modest abv, good steak quality :grinning:, and is thoroughly enjoyable (but note, it's not a "go-to" beer for me anyway)

I say, build up your tolerance, and "session" incredible IPAs in the 7% zone, like Two Hearted, Sculpin, Union Jack, and so forth :sunglasses:

    Git sum!

Sunshine Pils, OMB Pils both right at 4.8 Abv, hard to get better brews. Growler only but Bull City makes some terrific English Milds that are sub 4% abv.
