Good afternoon all fellow NBS followers. I'm going to give this the college try as I'm away from my home base this Memorial Day weekend doing a trial run with the new camper to Northern Vermont. We've had a great weekend so far and I've even gotten to a few of the lesser known breweries here but surely not lesser quality.
My new beer today is from Lost Nation Brewing. The Wind is a Gose dry hopped with citra hops and grapefruit. These two combined with the clean crispness of the Gose make a wonderful combination. I can see myself many times this summer drinking this wonderful Gose while we enjoy traveling with the new camper.
Hope you all can enjoy the rest of the weekend. And I would like to thank all the Veterans for there service and allowing us to enjoy this NBS.

So today is a wonderful day back home again. Since I got back I've been working like light-speed trying to finish demo-ing the floor in one room so I can finally put down the new floor and get it done with (and get that room back into commission). It is tough work for sure, but I've been doing well on it lately, so this beer is a nice refreshing treat in the middle of demolition. Sixpoint Jammer Gose isn't as good as I was hoping, but it does serve the purpose of a nice refreshing brew while taking a break from sweating profusely. Hope this NBS treats all of you well, and I'm glad to see cavedave back!

    Cheers!

Hoping for the sake of my grilling commitments that this is my last new beer, as I should probably move along to something less aggressive soon!

That being said, I've got our favorite ringed planet playing it's tune.

Looks beautiful, let's just get that straight right away. Creamy head lay atop deep orange and burgundy opaque sexiness. Nose hints immediately at the vinous qualities but shortly wrestles away to raisins, figs and dates. First swig carries with it a little heat before the dark fruit begins trumping all other suits. Finish is mostly bitter but not without a small pinning of sweetness hanging about.

I have one more, so we'll see what a year does to this one.

They do play up the heavy metal attitude. If it weren't for the relative indistinguishable nature of the lyrics in the genre, there were a few lyrics not fit for kids heard during the blue plate timeframe of our stay. Not a metal-head by any means, but recognized Metallica, Tool, Rage, Godsmack - so that's the lighter end of their choices .

Double Duckpin DIPA by the Union Craft Brewing Company (Baltimore, MD). 8.5% ABV.

I wasn't really expecting much...I picked this up from a good bottle shop off of 95 making my way up to NJ. But the guy at the shop convinced me to give this a go and I'm glad I did.

Spicy...that's the word I'd use for this. Like black pepper or allspice. Sort of similar in a way to Sierra Nevada brews like Celebration or Southern Hemisphere Harvest, but as a DIPA.

Ridiculpusly drinkable for an 8.5% brew. I'd seek this out if I was in MD. Good price, too (around $12 or so for a 6-pack)...

New American Kolsch Sunday (week 535)

Good afternoon fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. A gorgeous day here, bright sun, dry, nice breeze blowing, all you could ask for. A crazy morning at work, so much came into the recycle center I had to climb into the cardboard and use a sawzall to break down metal and wood to size. Customer said, "Man you really get into your work," when he saw me in the 40 yard roll off jumping on the broken down boxes.

Thirsty work that, and luckily Sierra Nevada to the rescue. This Kolsch is hitting the spot. I love how nowadays Americans are at least well regarded enough to not take shit when we do our own takes on style. The world is slowly realizing that we not only have caught up in terms of brewing skills here, our brewers have a pretty good grasp on what we enjoy to taste in our beers, and that learning traditional technique isn't the goal, it is a learning tool to the goal of knowing and pleasing your customer. Leave it to say this Kolsch is absolutely pleasing this customer.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    New American Double/Imperial Stout Sunday

Happy NBS everyone! It's been a nice day here in Central Ohio, mostly sunny with temperatures in the 70's so I can't complain about that. Hit the Pizza Cottage for lunch, and then just spent the rest of the day enjoying the weather, and now enjoying some brews! My first new brew of the day is Clown Shoes Crasher In The Rye Imperial Oatmeal Milk Stout aged in rye and bourbon barrels. My review is here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22951/150537/?ba=bluejacket74

I'm a fan of their imperial stouts, and this is one of the better ones I've had from them. The bourbon/rye isn't strong, but you can still tell that this was barrel aged. I thought it was pretty tasty, glad I tried it! I'll be back on here in a little while with another new beer review. Cheers everyone!

Welcome back @cavedave good to see ya.

I am at the beach and enjoying myself, and just chilling. Not too much more to say but grabbing some Oskar multiparty for quantity and quality.

But there is a new beer in there what's that??

Bright brew here looking out. Deep brass yellow color, large brown hues to it. Head is shockingly bright bleach white, two fingers tall and soapy lacing and light retention.

Hop forward aroma but slightly sweet just a hint of caramel and a bit sticky. Spruce and herbal green aromas for a hop bent, nice spiced angle also.

Palate comes with light session feel, slightly watery but with plenty of flavors to carry. Light hints of spruce, slight sweet citrus and caramel a bit but with a softer grain bread character. Almost chewy sap like character and a bit of candy sweetness.

Overall an interesting take, not right up my alley but decent.

Good times all! But I gota run! CHEERS

Up next for me on NBS is another member of the Samuel Adams longshot series. I am excited to try the Smokehouse Rauchbier because it is one of my favorite beer styles. Overall, this one is better than expected but does not stand up to some of the German classics. Smoky, savory, malty, this is one that I would purchase frequently if it was a year round selection.

What's up NBS. Happy memorial weekend to all. Another beauty of a day here on the island. Slept in late, and spent the rest of the afternoon looking at Sheds, as we really need to replace our current one, and getting some tomato plants and flowers to plant around the yard.

My new beer today seems to be a popular one with two other submits by @larryi86 , and @lordofthewiens respectively. It is of course Blackbeards Breakfast, a barrel aged imperial porter by Heavy Seas brewing.

A slick black pour with a robust nose of coffee grinds. The initial sip is all about the coffee. The flavor really seems to dominate from start to finish. The finish is smooth and carries a subtle bourbon char. The mouth feel is pretty much what to expect from a porter, on the moderate side, but still delivers enjoyment. Rich, sticky, and lush. The 10% hides well on the drinking but I am feeling it for sure.

Overall this is a good beer but not great. It's very coffee forward so if that's your thing then I think you would enjoy it. I'm not sure how long they aged it but I would like to see a little more of the barrel in the flavors. I'm in the high 3's/low 4's.

Beer number two is very different from the first, but brewed in the same city. Now up Union Craft Old Pro Gose, have to say this is nicely done, great sour flavor but not too sour.
