I agreed to a trade last night with someone who has 40+ feedback all positive. He asked if we could ship today because he wanted the beer for an event next weekend. I had no problem with that.

Problem is he disappeared since and did not accept the trade request. Ive messaged him and sent a text to the number he left for shipping but no answer. I dont know if I should ship or wait. I have about 2 and a half hours left before fed ex picks up.

I guess you could ship and always turn the box around if he doesn't respond, but that's pretty much throwing money away.

So you haven't heard anything back since last night and you are bugging out? Give him a little bit of time, especially with 40+ feedback I doubt he is out there to screw people over, but hey stranger things have happened.

It sounds like your trade partner asked for speed, I would definitely wait until the request is accepted in the system. Its there exactly to help minimize risk as much as possible.

If he is in that much of a hurry to get the beer, he should be in a hurry to accept the trade request

Disappeared? You agreed to the trade on Thursday and less than a day later you classified him as disappeared? I probably would have shipped the beer, even if he didn't accept the trade request. If addresses were exchanged that signal the intent to trade. I could cut someone slack on not accepting the trade request immediately.

@WI-Beer-Man I don't think the trader in that thread was named, however funke910's only recent trader with 40+ trades & 2005 registration date is @buckwheatsb

@dymmig89 was the trader by any chance buckwheatsb? If so, please read the other thread, then carefully decide whether or not you want to proceed with the trade.

@funke910 is buckwheatsb the trader in question in the other thread? Regardless, please leave appropriate fb & comments for that trader so that others realize what they could be facing.

@jrnyc shipping before a trade request has been accepted puts the OP in an extremely vulnerable position. IF the other trader is in such a rush to have his beers shipped he should be equally diligent about accepting a simple trade request.

I'm a cynic but...Just as a hypothetical, let's say I've been a decent trader with a good rep that for whatever reason has been getting overwhelmed, falling behind, failing to catch up or take control. It's reached the point there have been threads posted about me. It looks like I'm getting bad fb on a trade or two. Yikes! I might even be getting banned. I'm feeling desperate, cornered & a little pissy. Why not line up some FAST trades before the ban hammer falls. I'm good for em. Eventually. At least I mean to be...

Would the above happen often? Of course not, but why risk even once? No trade accepted, no beers being shipped.

I hear you, I am a believer in the trade system, but in this instance I would have shipped. Even if someone doesn't accept a trade and can't be left bad feedback , their reputation is still on the line if a bad trader thread is posted. Chances are this is not a bad trader, I would take my chances. If trade was agreed upon and addresses were exchanged, yes a trade accepted would be nice, but even without that I would send out.

In general I agree with you. Maybe I'm getting sloppy, I dont know but with 40 plus trades under their belt and knowing they needed the beer by a certain date I would probably ship without the request having been accepted.

A show of good faith goes a long way in establishing Lt trade partners, no?

Fine distinction here...sometimes what we'd personally do & what we'd advise others to do isn't the same thing.

There's minimal protection with trading even with an accepted trade request. There's even less when one hadn't been accepted.

Also, I'm bothered by someone who's in a huge rush to have his beers shipped asap but can't be bothered to accept the trade.

A very common tactic with many cons is the need to rush things. In this instance, imo, caution is well advised.

There's a body builder cop who's had multiple bad trader threads posted about him. Another here just recently has had three threads started about him. I'd bet the body builder is still trading with barely a hitch & the other guy likely would be but his trading privileges have been suspended.

Many people trade who rarely, if ever, read this forum. Look at how many worry about retaliatory fb. Anyone who reads this forum even occasionally knows that the undeserved bad fb will be removed & the member who left it will be banned.

Bad trader threads have often worked near miracles but they're no panacea.

He managed to accept the trade so I got the box out that day. But he never got his out. I understand with the holiday weekend since this is coming from California and Im in NJ I wont see this til next week now. But with the rush to have it for the Firestone Walker event and I didnt get the same rush consideration irks me a little.

I hope this works out for you OP. I've done a bunch of trades on another site via mail but when I discovered the fairly robust IP forum here I realized I enjoy that SO much more than the stress of shipping. I still ship to trusted trade partners but I've seen too much BS lately to take many chances even with semi experienced traders. The worst ripoff I had was a guy with 20+ positive trades that I found out later moved from the east coast to the west coast and I guess decided to burn some bridges on the way out of town. I think you've done everything right so far from what I've read. If you end up getting screwed, keep us updated and I'm sure many people (including me) will try to make it right for you if we can.

I don't think I will get screwed. I just didn't know considering the urgency that was said it needed to be done at warranted me sending it blindly or not.

But the fact that the same urgency wasn't applied to the box being sent my way when the trader offered that we both ship friday and I ran out of work to make the fed ex drop. Then I get a message at 9 pm saying sorry I was busy Ill have it out later. Then I text saturday and its still not out and will have to go out tuesday.

Bottom line is im not mad about the fact that hes late shipping. It happens we all move on. Its when something special is asked for and I do it and the same consideration isn't done at all for me is what bothers me.

As it should! To earn respect you have to give it. That would really piss me off.
