In memorial, I hoist this Sierra Nevada Pale ale in honor of the fallen heros of the US.

While most are enjoying a BBQ, beverage, and time with family and friends, remember the reason for the day.

Put our your flag, drive by a national cemetery of you have one nearby, and pause to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Here's one in Salisbury, NC.

Glad to see BAs know the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans' Day and Armed Forces Day.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
    — George S. Patton
Every day we spend in this amazing country we call the USA is a direct result of men who died protecting it. I think it's something too few remember unless you've actually lost someone close to you for that cause.

I cherish a letter from a lovely Native American man from Oklahoma that served with my Dad in The Philippines in 1944. He credited my father with saving the lives of 15 people simply by being smart and being an officer well trained. This fine gentleman had kept up with my Dad and sent the very thoughtful letter two days after my father died in 1976. My Dad loved the guys in his platoon. He never talked about it much, but it was who he was.

I grew up from childhood with a friend who gave his life for us in 1964. I served, but I came home. I have had 51 years of walking this earth in freedom since that time. Thanks, Danny, to you and all the others before and since.

Don't forget the meaning of today. Enjoy yourself and have fun, but while you're at it raise a beer for the fallen heroes. Cheers to the fallen....

Here's to heroes who gave all. Let's remember their courage, dedication, and sacrifice every day, not just today.

Having a Rush River amber ale, thinking about watching a war movie a la Saving Private Ryan or something.

    Oh yeah, leftover catfish stew.

Cheers to those who died soldiering. Huah.

I think very much of my nonno: Michele Giuseppe Caffarella.

Born in Italy, then moved to Philadelphia to meet my nonna. He joins the war effort and is gone for 5 years, survives and comes back to have six children, and to be the hardest worker I have ever known.

He did lose his brother also named Michele who also served in the war, who passed from a disease.

I had a Birrificio Montegioco Draco in his name! Grazie, nonno mio!

Absolutely. Yesterday's lone beverage was enjoyed while thanking the fallen (and thinking of their their families) for our freedom.
