Never had an IPA, I love Anchor Liberty and I've been told it's much like an IPA. Would like to try a good representation of the style to start me off. Any suggestions? thanks

I would concur with the 60 min IPA, also 400 lbs monkey.

I see you're from the south so try some Cigar City Jai Alai.

60 minute is good, Green Flash West Coast is great, but to some, a well-balanced ipa is an oxymoron.

Check out Sweetwater IPA, they're local to you, and it's a great brew.

Union Jack is the best example of the style I have had, if you can get it in Georgia.

I think Bell's Two Hearted is perfect for a first IPA.. it's the epitome of a balanced IPA..

I think a couple are more hop forward than balanced but that's just me.

OP: could you please clarify what you mean by “well balanced”?

I think that Anchor Liberty is a tasty IPA but I personally would classify this beer as being a West Coast American style IPA; it is hop forward with just some malt backbone.

A lot of people (most?) would consider a balanced IPA as being a beer that is both hoppy and malty in nature. Examples of IPAs that fit this description are: Victory Hop Devil, Southampton IPA, Lefthand 400 lb. Monkey.

    Cheers!

That's why any list of the best this or the best that is completely subjective to the views of the people making the list and that's why these types of lists aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

You're not supposed to print these lists. You can read them right on your screen!
