I recently posted about styles you have a hard time obtaining. This post is about styles you just cant seem to get a taste for. Which are your least favorite styles of those you've tried and why?

Barleywines, especially the English ones. It's better if they're barrel-aged for me but i find the taste is often very leathery and bitter.

IPAs of any stripe. I actually physically cannot enjoy them, as I perceive hop-forwardness past a certain degree as a sort of "wall" of a very unpleasant, single-note flavor, which nothing else at all gets past. The "wall" can vary a little in what I imagine it tastes like, but the most common ones are Pine-Sol right out of the bottle, Chanel No. 5 concentrate, and liquid that ran off a compost pile that has spent a couple weeks under direct July sunlight.

IPAs I've tried, which have all confirmed this phenomenon for me: SN Celebration, Two Hearted, Arctic Panzer Wolf (entire growler choked down in one sitting, no change at all in taste), Lake Erie Monster, Habanero Sculpin (no spice, no heat, just the Chanel wall), and a bunch of others I don't remember the names of.

Pale ales, amber ales, red ales without the word "Irish", many brown ales, and assorted beers from other styles that are taken too far hop-forward do the same thing to me. However, Vienna lagers tend to be drinkable, as well as various other styles that showcase hops but in a more subtle or subdued fashion, such as kellerbiers, pilsners, and such.

Witbiers, wild ales, Flanders anything. I've had enough of a dabbling in all those styles to respect the craftsmanship of the better ones while realizing it just wasn't' a particular taste I was fond of. Didn't feel bad rating them accurately since I simply rated to the style expectations instead of personal preference.

I have yet to meet a style I don't like when executed properly. Smoked beers are generally my least favorite, but I enjoy them every now and again.

Berliner Weisse. Can't do it. I probably haven't had the pinnacle of the style, but I've had some options from good breweries and have no interest in going further. At the other end of the spectrum, Old Ale. Too syrupy/sweet. Again, I've had some highly-rated examples and struggled to finish them hoping that they would "evolve" as they warmed up. They did - and got worse. Fortunately there is a vast middle ground between these two styles.

    Sours. They're too sour.

I suppose just overly sweet beers - fruit beers. And overly spiced beers - Pumpkin beers.

Most smoked beers, I guess the smell of sausage and bacon is just a bit too much for me. But hey! I got used to other styles in the past as well, so I'm giving these a chance too.

There are examples within styles that I don't care for as much, but I can't actually think of a style were I can lay a blanket "dislike" statement down at this point.

I feel the same way about beer that I do about food. When executed properly I enjoy them all.

Just can't make myself like Belgians that much.

I only tried a gose once but it just tasted like dill pickle juice to me.

    I agree with UrbanCaveman.
I just can't enjoy a beer whose main focus is on bitter.
Sour is another taste I just do not want.
I did not enjoy bitter, or sour, long before I started drinking beer, and I see no change in that ever occurring.

I am not big on saison yeasts (mostly the aftertaste) or beers with that heavily smoked meat taste. A little bit of smoked malt in a dark beer is fine, but beers based on that profile just don't do it for me.

Wheatwine just doesn't do it for me. It's a struggle to finish a glass and that's not how beer should be.

So far the rauchbier is the one style I just don't seem to enjoy at it's full measure of strength - yet.

I don't think there's an entire style I don't care for, but I dislike certain hop flavor profiles in any style.
I'm also not a big fan of phenolic Belgian yeasts combined with big hops. To me they clash in most instances.
