I like a good pilsner and I've been somewhat obsessed with SN Nooner in particular since it was released. Fresh Cut and the Crisp often find their way to my fridge as well.

I must admit though that I'm unfortunately a bit wary of the European brands simply because I had a lot of bad experiences back in the day with old, lightstruck, or just generally poorly handled bottles. I know I need to get back on the horse and move past it, but when it comes time to open my wallet I can't help but generally reach for the ones that I assume haven't seen the inside of a shipping container.

I just sat in traffic for over two hours due to a bridge being shut down for several hours. I was originally planning on working out when I got home for work, but turned right to a Sierra Nevada Nooner while reading this fine conversation.

It went down very quickly and smoothly...

The best Pils I drink is the Laguintas Pils but at 10 bucks a sixer I tend to buy more SN nooner at 14.00 per 12 er.. Yes I love good pilsners but am budget conscious when buying that style.

    you're far from alone ...

Pilseners have become my favorite go-to beer. My drinking ratio of pilseners-to-American IPAs is close to 10-to-1.

Only pilsener I had recently was Downright from Port City on a warm day after a bike ride.I enjoyed it very much, but I am not sure if it was a traditional Pilsener.

There is definitely a Pilsner subculture here on BA- I see a lot of the same familiar handles every time one of these threads comes up. I guess I'm late to the party this time around . From now on @Mattney has officially joined our ranks, it seems- just send out the bat signal whenever you need a support group .

Maybe we should take this one in a different direction just for a bit of fun, though-
Resolved: Pilsner is the greatest and most influential style of beer.

I'm a hop head I love over the top IPAs, but..... Damn a well made IPA is a thing of beauty and such a difficult feat to pull off. Time consuming, lengthy process, needs to be fresh like IPAs, under appreciated, you won't get rich brewing a great one. But SE Pa is the king for the style, so many great options. Lots love them, they just don't generally inspire chest beating reviews. Look at the top beer list , even the best of the best are not on the list.

I have come back to Pilsner and Helles lagers as my favorite summer beer I had my first Urquell recently and I think it is one of the best made beers I have ever had.

I liked Pilsner Urquell and it'd be my first choice if I was in the mood for a pilsner, but... I'm usually not. I'm just not a huge fan of the style, and if I wanted a lager I'd reach for a Munich Helles before a pilsner.

Pilsner Urquell is still one of my favorite beers after all these years. Probably my most purchased beer now that it is available in cans. I still haven't had a US brewed bo pils that is as good.

Personally, I think some people just like to get their taste buds whacked with a sledge hammer and don't appreciate a beer that doesn't do that. Myself, I'm much more impressed by a beer that strikes me as perfectly balanced for the style, and beckons me to drink more.

My home-brew club made terrific IPAs all the time. They really aren't that difficult unless you're looking for a specific cross between an English and American take on the style -- i.e. malt character in good balance with hops, not just hop-bombed.

As to what goes in to a great Pils -- see HerrB's post on page 2.

Pilsner is my favorite beer style. People that say its too boring don't understand it. Really taste them. Subtle complexity. Crisp. Wonderful.

I also love Pilsners but I find that it's good to mix it up once in a while. Pilsners especially, I find, can get quite repetitive.

That was my bad replace the IPA with a Pils. A great Pils from what I understand is incredibly difficult to pull off, there's no where to hide.

Strikes me funny that you like Helles, but not Pils. They are such cousins (at least in Bavaria) that I'd think one would almost have to like both. That said, I do enjoy Helles more than Pils, but I enjoy both -- and a good Helles is just too hard to find anymore. Maybe not in FLA?

I love a good pils. My fridge is stocked with Schell's Pils right now. Such a great beer style. Plenty of flavor and yet easy to drink. I'm not sure why BAs are thumbing their nose at well done craft beer. A beer does not have to be a hop bomb or 15% ABV to be enjoyed. The great thing about craft beer is the spectrum that it encompasses. Bypassing part of it is doing yourself a disservice.

I prefer Helles because they have a bigger malt presence and don't taste as grassy. Some of the pilsners I've had just taste like slightly upscale Euro pale lagers.

There are some pretty good bottle shops nearby with a large selection of German imports. Weltenburger Kloster Barock-Hell, Weihenstephaner Original, etc...
