Poll: lurkers vs. posters

lurking at the moment, just wanted to see what ba thought of sierra nevada torpedo and http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/30420/ , well everyone seems to know how sweet a thing it is already... btw ba has become a place i can only visit privately some late nights usually when i am having a few brews after the witching hour, just sayin, its a secret hoppy

 

When the new message board was released, I posted in just about every damn thread. Now I just post where I feel compelled to do so.

 

There's some saying somewhere that goes, "A fool that doesn't speak appears wise." or something like that. Lately I try to only post on WBAYDN and NBS and try to avoid posting comments that involve my opinion (like on drain pour threads) because I usually say things the wrong way (snarky, spiteful) specially if I'm drinking while posting.

 

I tend to lurk until I feel comfortable enough with the particular forum culture to know what's worth posting.

I think most of my regular posting is in WBAYDN, and currently I lurk the homebrew forums a lot but haven't come across a question someone else hasn't already asked, so, I haven't posted there much.

 

Unfortunately for all of you, I'm a poster.

 

"*Poster: I frequently post comments in threads" but not all threads, only the threads that I can add some meaningful content to. I will sometimes do research on the thread subject (more often that not) in order to be correct in my assertions.

The threads that don't pertain to my beer interests, I stay out of, for I have nothing of meaning to add.

I have been more active of late, mainly because I am now retired, with more time to play with, than I ever thought existed.

 

I have moved several times in my life and have learned never to lurk. Jump right in I say!

I put 50/50 because by the time I get to most threads, other BAs have made solid points I would've made. And/or successfully countered them. In these cases I do throw out likes; if those were included it would more like 2/3 "posting"

Although I do post in much less than 50% of polls.

 

Do lurkers take part in polls?

 

I checked the 50:50 box. I lurked for a couple years before joining, then lurked a couple more afterwards. It wasn't until it became a bit 'easier' to post from one's phone that I decided to chime in. I lead an active lifestyle and spend more time outdoors as opposed to behind the computer.

As for contributions to thread content? I'm at home in the WBAYDN thread because of my love for photography and music. The environment is fun, the content usually high quality, and I've often compared it to a virtual bar. No need for a designated driver when I'm posting from the woods in back of my house!

I've also started contributing more to the NBS thread in recent months. I like trying and reading about people's experiences trying new things. It's helped me to slow down and really think about what I'm tasting and try to convey that into words. I have a new appreciation for people dedicated enough to post regular lengthy reviews!

As a former lurker, I urge current ones to come out and enjoy the party!

I don't know why, but the term "lurker" is still funny to me...I picture shadowy basement rooms with stereotypical villains on computers...

 

I'm a lurker, baby. Profile says I joined a year and a half ago, but lurked before then. Used site initially as a resource, then enjoyed WBAYDN and NBS threads. Regional threads are of use too when planning things like a forthcoming Asheville beer-cation in June. Back to lurking.

 

I don't read the board, I just post on it.

I never looked at the discussions before I joined. I just used to look up ratings.

Since I've joined - I'm on here all the time.

 

Less in the beginning and more as of late, as evidenced by my posting this, so 50/50ish but trending toward poster.

 

I usually post when I feel like I have something insightful or witty to say. I also post when I see a wrong that ought to be righted.

 

I picture more beards and t-shirts. Fewer British accents and monocles.
