Does anyone know what variants of Fremont Abominable Ale and Dark Star have been bottled (ever).

Right now I have: (All 2014 vintages)
    Fremont: Bourbon Abominable Ale
Fremont: Bourbon Abominable Ale: Coffee and Cinnamon
Fremont: Barrel Aged Dark Star: Coffee
Fremont: Barrel Aged Dark Star: Spice Wars
    Fremont: Barrel Aged Dark Star

Planning on doing a big Fremont tasting and wanted to know what I was missing (base beers, other variants, and possibly "retired" variants.)

Thanks in advance for the help.

Get a bottle of regular Dark Star if you want. There's also regular Abominable, but it's not the base for Bbomb.

Well, you're missing The Ancient One (Bbomb partially aged in 37 year old bourbon barrels), but you'll have a hard time getting one, so forget I said anything and enjoy what you have.

I thought The Ancient One was single barrel, unblended?

Rusty Nail and First Nail. You should be able to snag First Nail relatively easy. Rusty is a different animal.

Are these variants of Dark Star or Abominable? I thought this was a different recipe altogether.

Yeah, they're a totally different beer. But if you're doing a Fremont tasting, I think they're well worth seeking out. And I feel it at least fits the theme of darker beers.

First Nail is an imperial stout with cinnamon, licorice, and smoked barley. Pretty cinnamon dominant as I recall.
Rusty Nail is First Nail aged 12 months in 15-year bourbon barrels. Sadly I haven't had this one (yet).

That was the plan but it was too much. So it was blended.

@distantmantra was kind enough to bring a 2015 First Nail to Bend for me. Just have to get past Beer Week and find a time to give it the attention it deserves!

2014 first nail was damn tasty. I would love to see Fremont start doing more nonbarrel aged imperial stouts.

Are nonbarrel aged imperial stouts the new barrel aged imperial stouts?

BA stouts are like skipping dinners and heading straight to dessert.

Didn't you're mom ever tell you to eat you're vegetables or else you would spend the rest of your life chasing barrel aged whales.

If so, I missed that boat too :slight_frown:
Only three ratings on here (and no reviews), so I suspect it was draft only, and probably not much of that.

Ancient One was bottled for the Heron Hunter Club tasting/dinner. A friend has one.

From what I heard, the recommendation was to let the bottles of Ancient Ones hang out for a year to mellow before drinking.
