Hey, and welcome to NBS! Great review, but...I can't see your picture. (I always list the beer I'm drinking in case the picture doesn't load for any reason.) So please re-up the pic, or let us know what it is; sounds tasty!

    Cheers!

Thanks for the headsup! I think I fixed it. I was playing around with some of my security settings on Smug mug and I think I made it too secure. I am drinking Logsdon's Peche 'n Brett FWIW

So far both of these are 1st tries, very different beers, but both really good.

From this morning (before breakfast, and was perfect!), light and pleasant, like a minimally sour grape juice with seltzer. Received in a trade, will def look for more.

Just cracked this guy pre-dinner, lots of chocolate and coffee, slight vanilla, really hitting the spot.

Howdy NBS crowd! Going to review Greenbush Yogi Borealis IPA that I obtained on a recent visit. It states 68 ibu and an a abv. of 6.1%. Here we go......

Pours a semi clear straw color with one finger of white foam that quickly settles into a thin layer.

Aroma is sweet mango, mild pine and a hint of bready yeast.

Flavor is mango, followed by bitter grapefruit and a slight hint of pine. There is a biscuit flavor in the finish. Not your typical tropical or pine heavy IPA. It's starts a bit bitter, but leans more toward bready malt.

Mouthfeel is thin and very dry.

In all a decent enough beer, but not memorable. I'd gladly drink again, but won't go out of my way to pursue. I much prefer their Star Chicken Shotgun to this one. My rating was a 3.22 / rDev 0%.

    Have a great week!

Not at all to be "that guy" (oh, you think this is good? Wait 'til you try this!), but with Rodenbach...seriously. If you liked Rodenbach red, you will be blown away by Grand Cru, the vintage variants (2007-2012), and Caractere Rouge. Incredible depth and complexity of flavors.

Bring it, as a predominant IPA/Stout/BW guy I'm looking forward to trying new things! I will say, did some beer shopping this afternoon, looked at the sours/beers that I have no clue about, and it was pretty daunting..

Ran across Tree Shaker on a jaunt to Winfield, KS at Bob's where I scored several great beers unavailable in OK. Never having had a peach IPA, I figured wtf. I could see the pile of dregs at the bottom so I poured softly. Still took on a fair amount of fuzzy peachy flocculation. The color is a nice golden yellow hue, but my gentle pour yielded very little in the way of froth. No lace to speak of either. I was ready for a peach blast to the nostrils, but to no avail. It was more of a grassy hopped up marmalade pastry thing. Well, surely the flavor will bring on the peach. Nope, not really. Not until room temp and then I got a tinge in the after, but mostly this beer was of the orange/pear citrus hop light bread variety. Feels fine - a bit velvety with a medium chew probably due to peach pulp. I must say I it was a let down for me. When a brewer boasts of fruits, I expect the fruits. Now this beer has a little less than 2 months before it's best by date and I have no idea how old it really is. Could be well past its prime.

Picked up Hop Nosh at Bob's Liquor while I was driving through Winfield, KS. I knew Uinta began shipping to KS recently and there they were. I just had to decide which ones to get among the many others I wanted to take back to OK. Hop Nosh seemed logical - a year rounder named after some legal turns. Perfect fit for me. Poured most of the 12oz into my Belgian tulip and she's a beauty - deep amber with nearly three fingers of off white delight. She has that thick sip marker lace that we all dig. This is a beer that needs to warm a bit before it peaks. It stuffs the nostrils with caramel cinnamon malt, fresh cut pine, and bitter citrus fruit rind. Flavors follow the nose to a T. Medium full body is slightly prickly, but good in the mix of things. In the vast universe of year round IPAs, this has an advantage over many, but may get lost in the long cold vast spaces between those stand out IPAs we pine for.

    Enjoy good beer!

I started with German lagers, then IPAs, then stouts; sours were basically my last frontier. That said, the Rodenbach vintages completely blew me away (it helps, I think, that I used to be big into wine).

The overall sour landscape is absolutely daunting, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything Rodenbach puts out.

Widmer Brothers - Old Embalmer '13 (Brothers Reserve) - Featuring X-431 Hops

New for me and new to the BA world as it was only added to the database in December and has only seven total ratings. Categorized as an American Barleywine.
Holly smokes! I really liked this beer. I typically rate to style, but I still gave this beer a 4.56, even though it does not taste like your typical Barelywine. This beer is more Old Ale than Barleywine. I guess the wine barrel aging gives this beer its twist.

A - A slightly hazy rusty brown with a one finger beige head.
T - Low attenuation, vinous qualities, with herbal bitterness.
    MF - Dry finish

I am a big fan of both Barleywines and Old Ales, so this beer was an interesting surprise for me. Purchased at the Perfect Pour in Maryland on the way home from a Baltimore business trip. I will be on the look out for additional bottles of this one in the DC/NOVA stores.

Sorry, I don't. My buddy from Annapolis gave me a couple cans, my normal sources would be in Western Maryland, I'll be looking for some more next weekend when I'm down that way.

Cool, hopefully Western Maryland is more plentiful than the eastern part, it is a really good gose. Also just a heads up it looks like some fresh Double Duck just hit MD.

I was running errands with my better half today and stumbled across this gem. Chilled it as soon as we got back to the house.

Pils (Blue Pants Brewery, Madison, AL)

Look: crystal clear with beautiful straw color. Huge fluffy head. Great retention and complex lacing.

Smell: prominent pilsner malt followed by subtle spicy noble hop aroma. Not overpowering but enough to make me want to immediately take a drink.

Taste: Fantastic. Bready malt with crisp, mildly spicy bitterness. Very clean, crisp and dry finish.

Feel: light-bodied with medium carbonation, seemed appropriate for style.

Overall: outstanding. Clean and delicious. This went fast. Gonna be a staple here in the hot summer.

    Cheers!

Shame on me, one for not posting in NBS until now, and two, for not trying this awesome beer from a local brewery until now. For this edition, I'm enjoying Amos Moses from Country Boy Brewing, based in Lexington, KY. This is an American Brown Ale clocking in at 6.60% abv. It's one I've seen on draft quite often, but for some reason never tried it 'til today. I stopped in at a local liquor store on my way home today, and didn't see anything new or appealing on the shelf, then I saw they had this bad boy on draft. Good thing I always carry a growler in my truck for such an occassion!

Got 'er filled, came home and cut the grass, then sat down and poured myself a glass. Right away, I knew I was in for a treat. Beautiful appearance in the glass - very dark brown with ruby red highlights when looked at in front of light. You want a small head? Ok, just pour slowly. Massive head? Dump it in the glass. Looks awesome all-around. Somewhat light aroma, but very pleasant chocolate, ginger, spice, vanilla, and coffee. The taste pretty much follows right along with the smell. Not a strong beer, not overpowering, but incredibly well-balanced. You get every ingredient coming to light with no one component dominating another. I'm currently on my second glass, and my only worry is that I might be too drunk to eat dinner, haha.

Seriously, though, it's a beer like this that makes me take pride in what Kentucky's breweries are doing these days. If you're ever passing through, I'd strongly suggest stopping by Country Boy's brewup (not a typical brewpub, per say, but you can get a beer and order a pizza and have it delivered). Great guys, lots of fun, and damn good beer. Cheers!
