I got there just before 8, and like most people, got some great stuff. The gem being a Vanilla Rye I just lucked into after 20+ people missed it. After my jaunt on the selection to the left side of the store, I went over to the right side.

It was cleverly hidden amongst one of the lesser sought after bottles. I didn't notice until about 10 minutes later, but the price tag in front of that row of beers was listed "BudWeiser Special Vanilla" or something along those lines.

    Thanks Bill, always fun!

If you got a 08 BCBS I would drink it soon. I had some at the rare beer fest and oxidation was present probably to the twist top tops. Past it's prime IMHO.

I had an 08 last November and it was delicious. Got it at zipps cellar sale last august. It all depends on how it was stored

How does a fellow BA find out about these F44 cellar sales?

Social media, it was posted on BA the day before. Er, sorry? Just need to be vigilant on all airwaves these days!

And thanks Bill, we got there about 830 and there was a ton of superlative beer left for us "stragglers." Any reason(s) why you won't be doing another cellar sale?

Just a guess, but from a business perspective, maybe tying up capital cellaring hard to get and relatively expensive beers, only to have us fanatics line up before opening and snap up all the gems - on the one day every year (or two) most of us set foot in the place - does nothing to reward their loyal clientele. Hell, it might actually be counterproductive if their regulars see the hauls people were pulling out of there at the checkouts (or posting here online) and feel disenfranchised.

I could be wrong, but the PR value of a cellar sale doesn't seem to provide much benefit to France 44 unless they're somehow converting lots of the attendees into new regular customers.

Or maybe it's too much work for too little reward and it's just easier to sell the stuff as it comes in from the distributor or trickle it out in the following weeks/months unannounced (sorta ties in with the first premise), or perhaps they can just better utilize the cellar space for other, higher margin stuff...

    Dead on ^^^

Shop here weekly and love the store and they always keep me up to date on when rarer beers will be in

These sales draw in the once a yr customers who have 4 hrs to wait in line for beer
