I'll be coming to Charleston next weekend (May 28th-31st) for my bachelor party. We have a rough plan beer-wise, but looking for some BA input as to which spots are not to be missed (and which can/should be avoided).

Planning to load up for the house at Charleston Beer Exchange (any other better spots?). The first night is gonna be low key since just a few of us will be there. Doing dinner at The Grocery and then thinking of getting drinks at Closed for Business, and maybe another spot too.

The next day we're sticking to the beach and the house we have rented in Folly (yes, I know to be super discreet when drinking on the beach).

Saturday we're gonna hop around breweries and bars in Charleston. The plan is start up at Holy City and Freehouse (possibly COAST too). (A lunch recommendation for 9 people would be helpful). Then we're gonna hit up Revelry and maybe Tatooed Moose, followed by dinner at Edmund's Oast. After dinner we thought we'd head down to Craftsmen, and then who knows.

Sunday we were gonna hit up Westbrook for a little bit before we go to the airport.

So, any thoughts, recommendations, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tattooed Moose is a better food spot than a beer spot. It is a great location for lunch. Just don't plan on it being a cool beer bar. The tap list there is just so-so. As mentioned above, Westbrook is not open on Sundays.

Good to know. Perhaps we'll squeeze that in another day if possible, or just skip it all together.

Any other spots worth visiting that I didn't mention?

Since you are on Folly, stop in at Burt's Market. It is a convenience store/deli kind of place with surprisingly good beer selection (and growler fills). It doesn't replace CBX, but if running low at the beach, that is the place to restock. I highly suggest a hangover breakfast (or two) at Lost Dog Cafe on Folly.

After your dinner at Craftsman, hit the Griffon for beers (about a block away). Dive pub with great selection. If it is nice out, the rooftop bar above the Vendue Inn has great bay views (not so much great selection of beer). It is across from the Griffon.

Oh and make sure you have reservations already for Edumunds Oast.

This. Great lunch, the kimchi pork sandwich and duck clubs are awesome. They'll have something local on tap, but you're not going to have more than a few local options.

Thanks for the Folly tips. And we're all set on our reservation for Edmunds Oast.

Another question...any good spots for beer and live music?

For your location, I would say Charleston Pour House. You can also catch music at Revelry some nights so I would just check out their FB page to see what's going on.

And depending on your flight time, Holy City would be the best bet Sunday based on how close it is to the airport.

Definitely go to COAST and Westbrook. Both are top notch (Boy King, Kölsch, BA Blackbeerd, other beers at Coast; Gose, One Claw, sours and wilds at Westbrook). The others you mentioned are decent regional breweries but nothing special.

Thanks for the recs. The only reason I'd skip Westbrook is that we get most of their beers here in NYC and it's kinda out of the way. But if any of the featured beers they have up while we're down there are extra enticing that could certainly lure us to go though.

Thanks for the help guys. Just got back from Folly/Charleston and had a pretty epic weekend. The weather was glorious the entire time, the beers were great, the food was amazing, and both towns were perfect for my bachelor party.

Loaded up at Charleston Beer Exchange the first day and went straight to the beach. Headed back to Charleston that night and grabbed drinks at The Ordinary before dinner...can't complain about Mexican Cake on tap. The dinner we had afterwards at The Grocery was phenomenal. Lost Dog Cafe was a great recommendation for breakfast so thank you for that. We never had to re-stock on beer at Burt's Market, but we did have a pretty hilarious time hanging on the corner outside at 1:30am with some random women while brown bagging NYFRB and eating sandwiches.

For the brewery crawl we started at Westbrook We did some flights and one of my buddies bought a Tequila BA Mexican Cake as a gift for me. That beer was unbelievably good. Then we went to Holy City. Had a few pints and some food there. The Olefactory Hues was the hoppy highlight of the weekend for me. That was a great spot to hang out at. We then went to Freehouse right before they closed. The owner was great to chat with and I loved that location. Such a chill place to relax and drink. Then we went to Revelry and had some good sours. I wish that piano built into the bar was more in tune. Another cool spot. The shower in the bathroom was a little odd though. I was very pleased with all 4 of those brewery stops and loved how different each one was. After Revelry we went to Edmund's Oast for dinner. Everything there was top notch. Their beers, the bottle list and food (especially the charcuterie board) were all fantastic. That was a great spot for 8 people on a bachelor party to have dinner.

Pre-airport on Sunday we did breakfast at Amen, walk around, made a stop at The Griffon and then had some cocktails on the roof at Vendue Inn. We then went to the airport and saw that our flight was delayed. Due to the storms in NYC, we predicted (accurately) that our flight was gonna get cancelled so 3 of us just said fuck it and changed our flights to this morning and got a bonus night in Charleston. Went to the Craftsmen and took full advantage of their 1/2 off the bottle list on Sundays deal. Then we went to Pearlz for some oyster shooters. We walked over to Husk to see if we could get a walk in table. That didn't happen, but we got some drinks at the Bar. After that we repeated our previous stops. Went to Craftsmen again, then grabbed another oyster shooter at Pearlz, and finished with dinner at Magnolia's.

All in all, I have absolutely 0 complaints about those towns and definitely want to come back again.

Sorry for the long read, but I just wanted to relay my thanks for the recommendations and advice you guys gave.

Looks like you hit up more places in 1 weekend than I have in 3 years. Not going to COAST was a mistake though, as IMO its the best brewery in the city. That just means you have to come back. You did that on purpose didn't you? Well played sir.

Also, the Edmunds Oast charcuterie board is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth.

@zac16125 Skipping COAST definitely leaves open for just another reason to come back. But I did drink a few cans HopArt and had the BA Blackbeerd at Edmunds

I have a question about Edmund's Oast. I am going to be in Charleston next week with my family and wanted to go to dinner here. Is this a restaurant not to bring kids too? I have a 7,6 and 2 year old. My kids are fairly well behaved as we do take them out and teach them how to act in public, but I do know some establishments do not want kids so I try to respect that if that is the case. My assumption is that the courtyard is fine to have kids, but is the more formal dining kid friendly? Thanks
