I didn't pick up any strong ale blending, more of a bourbon barrel aged Flemish. As you mentioned though this was based off one taster sized pour after a few other tasters.

I am generally a fan of Hottenroth. I didn't have Hottenroth w/ Peaches at the Terreux launch, but I had a taster this afternoon and really enjoyed it. Definitely a great addition to the base beer.

    1) With some beers in the past like Coveteur, they've added the adjuncts in the bright tank. Not sure why this time would be any different. If you've had CR/GM/etc...I'd expect the same. My guess is they take GM/CR/Anni beers from the barrels and add the adjuncts in the bright tanks to impart the flavors with the blended beers. Just a guess though.

I wasn't asking about process, I was asking about the end result, namely whether the adjuncts serve to enhance the beer or obliterate any nuance of the blend and leave it tasting like a nondescript strong ale with a heavy dose of nibs, nuts, and beans.

That sounds like the title of a great porno.

I bet the Bruery would say obliterate! Come on man, it's beer.

Definitely not the latter. To me #12 tasted like 3 parts Bois, 1 part 2013 Melange #1, and a couple of drops of CR (no GM).

I can tell you right now that the blend is 1 part GM, 1 part anniversary and 1 part white oak sap with cacao nibs and vanilla bean added. The hazelnut flavor is coming from the GM.

To clarify, I'm not saying its blend in a perfect 1/3 ration but those are the beers used to make it. I thought it was quite tasty and I hated the spiced version at the anniversary party. I grabbed my six bottles real quick.

Totally serious. I'm an RS member so I'm interested in allocations, but this 100-plus-page thread has way too much off-topic chatter, redundant posts or "I'll be the doughy guy with a beard wearing an out-of-state brewery shirt over in the corner" stuff for me to keep up with. Your posts are on-topic and mostly informed, and I appreciate it.

Cyber-man-crushes aside, am I the only one disappointed that it sounds like Beret doesn't have much fruit in it? I originally was excited about this beer, but the description has me wanting to buy one bottle instead of max. ..

It's honestly going to be a great summer sipper! It's not super acid like a lot of the sours they produce, it's got a nice funk character that balances nicely with the subtle fruit and tart. My friends and I will enjoy this for many moons to come.

From what I was told at the desk, it was left-over hazelnuts from this batch of GM, not straight up GM. The hazelnut character wasn't as prevelant as if expected, but not so lacking that I wanted more. I think out of the bottle it's going to be amazing, like just about everything they do. Draft always seems a bit thin compared to bottles.

The Giant is certainly a big one! Didn't detect any of the sweet bourbon character that white oak sap usually imparts, but got enough of a leathery dark fruit character. Not as tart as some people seem to say, but definitely a tasty little treat with potential for further sour development in the bottle.

From what I heard, it's almost like BWII except barrel-fermented. Since it wasn't in the barrels as long as XII was, it picked up more of the bright oakiness rather than the subtle wine characteristics. A very bright, light, tasty treat.

Sorry for the sudden influx of posts. Long-time member/lurker that finally make the jump into this pool.

    That explains the tartness.

Tartness? All I got was boozy, sweet, syrupy nectar. Though I will admit, a bit heavy on the adjuncts.

Interesting, nothing like what I had today. I'll buy a bottle and see if it's anything like what I had on tap but not in a hurry to buy any more.

Fair enough. I'm guessing with a few months on it, it'll settle down and be the same sweet lovely mess we know and love a la GM, CR, WC, etc...
The whole beer is basically vanilla Nutella Melange 3

Thats odd because in the TR I was flat out told it was GM. Not sure if they added more to it with some left over hazelnuts but it should be GM in it...unless someone told me wrong.

THIS! And I'm ok with it. I'm just happy that it isn't that crap we tried at the anniversary party.
