anyone else think Mosaic is one of the more overrated hops out there? I think I've used it 3 times and each time it seems to dominate with a cheap white wine like flavor similar to Nelson, which I also hate. For people who like it what character are you getting from it?

I have brewed with Mosaic twice; once an all Mosaic hopped IPA and the other was Mosaic along with Centennial & Simcoe. In both cases the principle flavor I perceive from Mosaic is fruity (with a touch of blueberry).

Hop varieties can be 'tricky' for a number of reasons. Hops will vary based upon crop year, the particular location it is grown, when it is harvested, etc. The other challenge is that we all have our own unique palate. While I perceive fruity in a particular beer, jlordi12 could drink that same exact beer and state that it tastes like cheap white wine.

    Cheers!

I get fruit salad with a touch of dank from mosaic, it is kind of a vague, generic fruitiness, though. Goes well with simcoe.

I used it with Belma in a Pale Ale once. The beer had a nice stone-fruit aroma and flavor.

I have used it only once to dry hop an IPA. I get tropical fruit. I will probably use this hop in the future.

This is my experience also. I have only used it for dry hopping.

Ok I lied. I dry hopped a simcoe IPA with it and that was a solid beer.

I think this is the plan , not loving it at all in the boil.

One of my favorite hops. Not everything if for everybody.

Totally agree, but you are the 7th person in a row who has replied with a positive experience.

Mosaic is one of my favorites. I never got blueberry from it, but more of a broad "berry" or "fruity" aroma. Maybe a little "tropical" too. It pairs well with cascade IMO (think Chillwave DIPA)

Never got the white wine from Mosaic, Nelson yes, and I share your opinion on Nelson. I really like Mosaic.

I wasn't crazy about Nelson alone either, but Nelson : Citra : Centennial at 4:2:1 ratio is probably my favorite combo that doesn't include Mosaic.

I've only used it once, in an IPA, and it was way more aggressive than I was expecting. My perception is basically the same as @bushycook 's, a more generic fruityness and a little dank. It completely dominated the beer, which wasn't a bad thing, because I do like mosaic, just not what I was wanting this IPA to taste like. I think next time around, I will dial it down, or maybe what was suggested above and only use it for dry hopping and see what happens.

5oz in the boil with a 3oz dry hop made lemon, melon, berry, dank pine and onion. Big onion.

I think I'd like it better with smaller amounts and blended with other hops.

maybe, I need to crack open another beer when I get home tonight but whatever I'm tasting is exclusive to Mosaic for sure

If possible try to fine commercial beers that use mosaic exclusively and see if you like them. If not, just cut your losses and use other hops you do like.

I think Mosaic is a fantastic fruity hop if you pair it well with others. The combo of Citra & Mosaic is a beautiful fruity thing.

I get an overwhelmingly fruity profile. Like soft, pink, tropical fruit - guava, papaya, melon.

Just brewed a rye pale ale with a bunch of Mosaic and it turned out great
