Would you consider your self a "philologist"? If not, how would you describe the fundamental difference of what your forte is and that of the philologist.

I work at an IT solutions provider as a datacenter and network engineer. I started off at this place specializing in virtualization and storage but have currently shifted my focus to networking full-time. I'm mostly post-sales but do spend some time in a presales/SE-type role as well for some products.

In my previous life (and sometimes on the side still, because only having one job is no fun) I was an IT systems admin doing end-to-end infrastructure and user architecture and management.

At interesting to see how many of you are working scientists or university professors, pretty cool stuff.

I'm a curmudgeonly employment lawyer myself, aka the fun police.

Nice! If you haven't heard of gns3, I highly suggest you look it up. There's a plethora of sites with labs to go along with it too. Fantastic CCNA/CCNP study tool.

No problem. Its an application that let's you take various Cisco device OS images and virtualize them to set up a virtual lab for any everything from basic route/switch to configuring ipsec tunnels and so on. You need kind of a beefy machine to run it well, but its free and though open-source it has great support.

Currently, I manage a print shop for a company that makes pumps for the petroleum and nuclear industries. We print all of their manuals and schematics.
