And that is the issue. Its a job they accepted willingly if its not something they want to be doing they shouldn't be there.

I definitely agree...I guess I'm just kinda used to it at this point. I get such shitty attitude from bartenders all around the city. One place in particular where I've felt like I wasn't wanted there due to a bartender's vibe was at beer culture in midtown. I've gone there many times and on multiple occasions the same dude has been a dick to me and my friends. Compared to that guy, the girl at Other Half is angelic.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one to be put off by her. I had asked for a flight (shortly after they stopped doing them) and she mumbled something I couldnt hear and looked at me like i was stupid.

Haha. I asked for a flight the week after they stopped doing them (I know because I had one there the previous week), and got a "What makes you think we offer flights?". Even by the accepted standards of offputting NYC bartenders I was slightly taken aback.

news flash - it's not women's (sorry, "girls" and "chicks") job to smile and flirt with you when you get your beer. Just like it's not part of the job description for the men either, you just don't have an unrealistic expectation of them.

If you need to have your ego stroked every time you order a beer, sounds like you are the target market for the Twin Peaks chain, maybe try there instead.

Did anyone suggest that? All the comments seem to concern a generally shitty attitude (see above), which women, much like men, are certainly capable of.

No one is saying its their job to flirt with us. But when you work in customer service, such as being a bartender, it is your job to ensure a good customer experience.

yes, actually, people just did say that she should "fake a smile" because "its a job they accepted willingly". this isn't the first time she's been criticized on this thread for not smiling more, either. when you're scrolling back through 65 pages of posts, let me know if you see any time that the tall skinny guy has ever been criticized for not smiling.

Well, you are definitely taking two different comments and putting them in a context that would prove your point. Regardless, I’m still not seeing how faking a smile correlates to thinking they should flirt with us. We are having a civil conversation about the service of the bartenders; there is really no reason to turn this into an issue of sexism.

You can pat yourself on the back in public and look at those comments in the most cynical light, that's your prerogative. But when you're in the business of customer service and bring a generally crappy attitude, regardless of sex, it has an impact on customers.

nobody talks about the tall skinny guy because he is generally friendly. that girl has a generally unfriendly attitude and people have called her out on it. this isn't a case where they are both provide the same customer service and people are expecting something different from a female

The owners are really friendly, but maybe that's cause they're the ones making all the green (everything).

Hey, did somebody say something about starting a new thread? Cause this has completely derailed.

This x 1000. I have been going to the tap room since the week they opened damn near every week. Anthony is a great bartender, but never once has he greeted me with a beaming grin. Nobody seems to care about his surly demeanor on here. (The tall skinny guy on the other hand, always greats me with a smirk)

And you know what? Who gives a fuck. He's a nice guy that does a good job at serving me beer. Let's talk about beer and hold all bartenders to the same standards, they are all excellent.
