Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and the reason I'm posting is because I have a question about hangovers. I hope this is the correct forum to post this in.

I'm not a beer connoisseur by any means but I'm so irritated by a problem I am commonly having that I decided to join the forum because no one has been able to help with this problem and I thought that perhaps some professionals on this board might be able to help me. Here's the situation....

I enjoy drinking beer on the weekend and will generally consume between 3 - 5 beers over the course of an afternoon. Sometimes I will have a glass of water between the beers and sometimes I will not, it just depends. I consume the beers over a period of 3 or 4 hours. The beer is usually some relatively low alcohol (4%-5%)content pilsner style beer. I usually am drinking on a completely empty stomach. I don't eat much on the weekends but sometimes I'll eat dinner after I have stopped drinking.

In general I tend to get slight hangover symptoms (upset stomach, headache, etc) in the evening. The symptoms tend to occur regardless of the brands I've tried and regardless of whether I've had water in between drinking them.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong...or is this normal? I'm not a small person, I am >200lb and just over 6'3". So I'd think that my drinking sessions are quite reasonable.

I'd really appreciate suggestions, as drinking and listening to music on the weekends is one of my favorite things to do and lately I'm starting to think its just not worth it any more.

If slight hangovers aren't your thing, you've come to the wrong place.

First, try to drink as much water as you do beer. Sencond, if you forget:
    24oz cup
    1/3 cranberry juice
    2/3 filtered water

I chug most before bed and keep it nearby so if I wake up in the night I will finish it off. Yes you will drain the lizard more but it will be worth it the next day.

A hangover is unavoidable when not drinking in moderation. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it dehydrates you. Alcohol also bothers the stomach lining, which is why you should never drink on an empty stomach.

Eat - otherwise not sure what to suggest.

I don't get hangovers which I find weird.

The main cause of hangover is dehydration, not fusel oil http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12960505 .

Eating food and drinking water will mitigate this problem for healthy people. If there is an underling medical issue like an ulcer or worse, you should see a doctor for a checkup.

    Cheers!

    Keep Drinking = Higher Tolerance
EAT FOOD (5 beers even at 5% over 3-4 hours is faster than your body can matabolize it, food helps with this issue. i.e. a 12% bomber over an hour after dinner causes no ill effects in the a.m.)
Also that comes with the territory for some people. I rarley get hang overs, only after all night benders but a shower knocks all symptoms out as soon as I get up.

http://www.drinkwel.com/buy.html supposedly these help. I haven't bought any yet, because usually if I am drinking beer I can just wake up and go to the gym and get it out of my system.

For some people their body cant tolerate alcohol. That sucks for them. Alcohol also depletes your body of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. For me taking one of those airborne/emergency c supplements before drinking and the next morning with lots of water prevents my hangovers.

Eat to prevent upset stomach and to balance the alcohol.
Water, water, water. Hydrate to prevent the headache. If possible drink the most you can right before bed.
Light exercise or do something around the house that will make you sweat for the fever-like symptoms in the morning.

    Always works for me.

Guys thanks for your comments on my question. I think the overwhelming consensus is to eat and perhaps increase my water intake even more. I will try this before I start drinking this weekend and see if it helps.

I try to drink water and take an ibuprofen and an antacid right before bed, and it seems to help with the most severe symptoms. But like others have said, the only real remedy is to drink more and increase your tolerance.

Take Milk Thistle regularly and drink a glass of water between beers. A friend said take an ibuprofen before bed, but that doesn't sound right to me....

When I was 27 it used to be water, grub, and ibuprofen. Now, at 37, nothing works.
