I have found that cracking open an ice cold beer the next morning and pounding it like the hammer of Thor works wonders

I inevitably fail to drink enough water while drinking, and always scramble the next day to alleviate my misery. And I've come across 2 options that seem to work.

The first is pickle juice. Yup. I just buy a jar of pickles and drink the juice right out of it.

    The second is pedialyte.

I heard of both from professional drinker and Pantera drummer extraordinaire Vinny Paul. He puts out some shitty music nowadays, but seeing as much as he drinks I took his word for it and tried both.

Its no magic elixir, but I was shocked at how well it worked for me.

Also, having another drink in the morning seems to help more than I want it to.

I'm not sure how this higher tolerance = no hangover thing works. More alcohol = more dehydration AND more acetaldehyde, the two major contributors to hangover pains. Just because you are able to metabolize more alcohol faster doesn't mean the metabolites and diuretic effects don't affect you. I'm inclined to think that all you're doing by increasing your alcohol tolerance is concurrently increasing your hangover tolerance.

If anything since my tolerance has gone down from my early 20s my hangovers are less severe because I drink less. I can get to where I want with 4-5 beers, sometimes less, so there's less of that toxin (albeit delicious) fucking with my system. Whereas 6-7 years ago it would be 7-8 beers and the next day was usually worse.

Here is the trick. My Biology professor told us this.

Before you go to sleep pound a ton of Gatorade. Like a 32oz.

Gatorade will replace everything the alcohol takes away overnight. No hangover.

Ever since then it has worked flawlessly no matter how much I drink.

I've had about 48+ ounces of water the past hour and will continue to drink water til 5pm or so, knowing I'm going out tonight. I also just had an 2-fried-edd sandwich with prov and Frank's -- plus a real meal in a couple hours.
Key tho, as others have said, food and water are your best friends. Then, when I get home, I'll pop an Aleve before bed.
I'll be ready to go again tomorrow :-) Unless some asshole wants to do shots, then it just doesnt matter.

@88keys77 You are describing mild binge drinking, which can effect different people differently, but some hangover symptoms wouldn't be a surprise. One thing to keep in mind is the only thing that helps your body process alcohol is time. Drinking water is good, but it doesn't speed up the rate the liver processes alcohol. The main benefit of drinking water during a drinking session is to slow down your rate of alcohol intake.

You could try to find beers that meet the British definition of "session beers" generally considered 4% ABV or less. The British have history with very long drinking sessions and have got this down to a science. Finding 4% ABV beers in the states can be difficult, but they are getting easier to find lately.

My general rules of thumb when it comes to long drinking sessions...

    1. Drink 2 8oz glasses of water per beer consumed, 3 if it is above 10%
    2. Food. While consuming alcohol eat! Especially starchy things as they tend to absorb some alcohol.
    3. Move around while drinking, get up and wander around, this will reduce the "all of a sudden can't get up" drunk also helps keep your metabolism cranking.

    +1 for "Drink water."

I try to end my nights of drinking with at least 40 oz of water before bed. If I have to get up and pee in the middle of the night, that's just another excuse to slam another 20 oz of water. Wake up, more water.

Nothing is better than just drinking water between each beer, but that just gets silly with time spent in the bathroom.

My plan, when getting into some legitimate beer drinking, is to eat proper meals and continue to drink water. When I fail at either of those, I pay for it. Some ibuprofen helps the next day on those occasions where I get hungover. ***Dont take tylenol with significant alcohol in your system, my doctor friends are serious about that.

Eat and drink water while imbibing.
After, go home, take a liter of normal saline IV, take two ibuprofen, wake up well (or nearly so)

    Some options that may help:
    1. Drink more water
    2. Eat more (before and after drinking, preferably something meaty)
    3. Get some exercise (a nice drunk walk around the neighborhood)
    4. or Drink later in the day so you can sleep through most of the hangover

Drink more water in general. This is good advice for most people in general, whether you drink alcohol or not.

Sounds to me that you're underweight for your height which doesn't help. You gotta eat dude! And stayin hydrated doesn't mean just drinking water in between beers or when you're thirsty. You have to drink water regularly in your ever day life otherwise you'll never be hydrated.

I have to think it's a placebo effect more than anything if these things work or not. But if you feel better you feel better I guess.
