I don't have any friends who enjoy beer so this gives me a chance to interact with other like minded people. Also, it helps me keep track of the beers I have tried.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick–no wait, that's why I went to the bank...Oh, now I remember. I'm here solely to find out when Black Note will be released, so I can drop everything and drive straight to Kalamazoo.

Many reasons. Info on beer releases, easy to use database of beers, best reviews from other people, a place to put my own mediocre reviews, trading, a way to make friends. I also just learn a ton about beer through the site and the people on it.

It's also a great way to avoid work during the day.

This has become an important part of my experience as well. My wife despises anything remotely social on computers and chuckles in haughty derision over my habit of posting on WBAYDN and NBS until I explained to her "You know how I used to go to bars a lot before the kids got busy with sports? It's like that with less driving and more typing...". She lightened up a bit and took solace in the fact that despite the eccentric nature of posting pictures of beer on our stove, it is a safer and more responsible way for me to do my drinking....

The forums are actually worthwhile most of the time, and plenty of people who know way more than I do about beer are on them. The beer rating system allows for the most nuance I've seen. There are more actual detailed reviews here than other sites/apps, where reviews either have a character limit or tend to be "This is awesome!"/"This sucks!".

Sure, it's overrun with anti-lager and pro-hops bias, and I've learned that "mild hop presence" written in a review means "the perfume/floor cleaner, it burns!" to me, but one can't have everything.

It's the best tool out there for referencing my reviews and notes.

It's also has the best frame of reference and resource for finding out new beers, and more importantly shops and places to find new beers around the world that are of interest to me.

Everything else is just icing on the cake...

referencing reviews, but also to remind myself I do not know everything about beer, or even much! Also great tool for advice and such for home brewers.

Ovaltine, information storage is a good point. I wouldn't be able to remember some of these either.

BA has more active forums & more detailed reviews.
I do use RB to compared reviews, plus there are some serious tickers there who I followed just to read their reviews. There are some troll reviewers it's pure comedy what they reviewed.
Untappd are used by lots of amateurs. They tend to overrate beers. The only advantage is newly released beers that are not yet entered in either BA or RB tend to get tens if not hundreds of checked-in's already.
