Surly Todd The Axe Man

I forgot about that and am actually heading to Milwaukee tomorrow, where there are several growler stations.

 

I guess I figured that part went without saying...

I hate to be the guy who says "I've got a guy" but my guy at the liquor store passed along to me that the distro rep told him to expect Todd cans as early as mid-July. Fingers crossed!

 

OK, we are holding you accountable now if it doesn't happen!

 

I hope I'm right lest I be dragged into the street and beaten with a sock full of nickels.

 

No beatings needed, I think a round of Todd the Axeman at a bar for everyone here will be more than enough.

As much as I would like you to buy me a beer, I rather be able to drink it home rather than my boys getting stuck on the leather at the bar.

So who is this Todd the Axe man? Why is there a beer named after him?

 

It was named after Surly head brewer Todd Haug, who also plays guitar (commonly referred to as an axe) in his metal band.

 

Todd The Axe Man is named after Todd Bunyan. The often forgotten brother of Paul Bunyan. He had an axe, that instead of swinging, dragged on the ground behind him, carving the vast rivers into the Minnesota topography. He had a giant red Rhino called Gert.

 

I remember hearing that it was named by somebody at Amager, the Danish brewery with which Surly collaborated to create the beer. Todd was embarrassed by the name (but not enough to change it, I guess).

I had a FL Sue last night and Todd from the source tonight. I think Todd officially wins that battle for me. Cannot wait for cans.
