In high school, while drinking copious amounts of Coors light, I discovered Spaten Optimator. I've been hooked ever since. It may not be the greatest dopplebock brewed, but for the price and taste you can't beat it.

It may not be the best one but it's close.

Add mine to the many votes for Celebrator . I have a herd of little white goats to remind me that this may be the best Lager I've ever had.

Yeah Celebrator is probably my favorite, Optimator is good but it's got a sweetness that I'm not crazy about.

Had a Paulaner - Salvator last week and while not as good as Celebrator (which is the only other Doppelbock I've had) was a decent enough brew.

Optimator is damn tasty, I got a 2qt stein of it in Epcot to wash down probably 6 pounds of German food at the smorgasbord. That was a glorious night.

    Celebrator probably beats it though.

Andechs Doppelbock for sure. Have it next to Celebrator, you'll see that doppelbocks can be quite varied in profile.

Whereas the Celebrator is off-dry and coffeeish, the Andechs is rich, fuller and malty without being cloying. I have to say, the doppelbock is the beer style that best emphasizes malt complexity. Barleywines have alcohol/oxidation complexities that partially divert the attention from the malts, and Quads have yeast-derived qualities that do the same.

I recently did an Andechs / Celebrator tasting, and Andechs won by a mile.

Sorry, but another vote for Celebrator. Ayinger can basically do no wrong. Fine brewery.

Gonna have to contribute to the emerging theme here. Celebrator was my fav until Andechs started sending their beers our way. So Andechs is my current choice, but Celebrator is still a damned fine beer. I'll second @StephenPM when it comes to Ayinger's lineup as a whole. They're probably my favourite German brewery.

Celebrator. I probably have enough of the little white goats to decorate a small Christmas tree.

Not an expert on Dopplebocks by any means, but yeah, Celebrator is hard to pass up. Plus, you get a free goat!
