Will this thread match with the order in the top-rated (for style) list?

There are a lot of new difficult to find stouts out there. Which stout do you think remains the benchmark for the style? I have listed as many big names as possible, if you click other, please specify and try to count the similar posts before you (lets keep an in-thread tally going!)

Yeti, but I just had a ten fidy and it w much better than I remember it and it definitely rivals yeti. Still haven't had stone IRS but its in my fridge and I should get to it soon.

I feel like Parabola shouldn't be part of the voting because it is a barrel-aged stout. And isn't the most recent Surly Darkness vintage barrel-aged as well?

I think Blaecorn Unidragon was a regular RIS, and somewhat easy to find. Harder to find? Ursus Spelæus from Sound Brewery over in WA. Both delicious.

Though I did not vote for it (nor did I for my king) Victory's take on the style is quite good.

As stated earlier, Parabola doesn't belong in this list.

Fascinating that, so far, Old Rasputin is leading, yet is 5th on the RIS list of those listed. I voted for Old Raspy. If I haven't had it in awhile I typically think I am overrating it for some reason. Then I have one, and it reminds me that I am a complete idiot for questioning it.

Asking me to choose between Ten Fidy, FIS and Bell's Expedition is like asking me to pick my favorite child, man.

I have never had them, I'm from Toronto and I don't have many opportunities to trade with Americans. Didn't realize.

Oh well, barrel aging doesn't necessarily make a beer have an advantage, I'm sure many people would vote Ten FIDY or Old Rasputin over Parabola or Darkness.

This poll was too hard. Voted for FIS, but it was really a random toss-up.

Its interesting that Expedition is the highest rated of these beers on Ratebeer but it has no votes yet.

As far as general availability and not being a seasonal, Old Raspy is the winner. I cant regularly get yeti anymore, but I would put it in the same tier of quality, though I like to give it a year or two of age optimally. I love Rasputin when it is young and aged alike. So much malt complexity.

Could just be accessibility. Old raspy has the widest distribution and is cheapest, so maybe more people have had it compared to the others.

If we're taking out Parabola which I agree with then probably Stone IRS. Yeti is pretty darn delicious though.

Stone IRS with a year on it is my favorite beer and most likely always will be. The balance on that baby is just unbeatable.

That one ages really well too. It peaks around 3 to 4 years I find. Any longer than that though and it starts to lose a little something.

Hm, last year I had one from 2007 that was still beautiful. But you're right, a little bit of the sparkle was gone. Like I said, I like it about a year old so it's still got the boldness, but everything's melded SO well. And in the city I just came from, bottles easily sat for a year so I could always get it that age!

Ten Fidy. Still need to get my hands on Expedition and Darkness, though.
