I popped into a certain well-established bottle shop in Park Slope last weekend, and to my surprise, they had Maine's a tiny beautiful something on sale for $16.99 a bottle. Now, this place isn't known for being a big deal, but that's excessive even for them and a huge increase in price over recent Maine shipments. I can't imagine they'll get anyone to bite at that price. Crazy.

I'm not sure why you're being coy, as I'm pretty sure you're talking about Bierkraft (which is really the only option left in that price range, now that Eagle Provisions is no longer). St. Gambrinus can be steep but not THAT steep, but yes, it has been a long-discussed lament that Bierkraft's pricing is absurdly high (unless held against, say, Beer Table Pantry). That said, they do have excellent curation, outstanding growler fills, and a really knowledgeable staff.

That said, not to be too much of an a-hole, but why does this need a thread? As in, where do you see it going?

(Oh, and btw, people WILL bite at that price.)

If you're talking about Bierkraft, it's been like that for a long time and plenty of people pay their prices.

Bierkraft I assume and yes that's high, even for them. But Bierkraft should be used for what it's good at - go with a couple of friends and split a growler (excellent selection and prices are fair) and maybe a special bottle out back while having a sandwich. Don't use it as a bottle shop

And, if their policy is still as it was a couple of weeks ago, there is no surcharge for opening a retail bottle in the shop.

Yep - still the case as far as I'm aware

A fair question. Just sort of venting. The last ATBS shipment, prices were around $11-$12 a bottle. This is a huge jump for them, and based on the stock on the shelves nearly a week after they got it, few are biting at what seems to be a 33% increase.

That beer should be $7.99. The rent is too damn high!

I love Bierkraft. Great beer selection, tasty sandwiches, friendly people, nice backyard. I may have bought a bottle there once, but I don't remember the price. I go for the draft pours. Hate on the Slope all you like but that general vicinity is one of the best beer areas in the city. Within walking distance of Bierkraft is Pacific Standard, Mission Dolores, 4th Ave Pub, and Threes Brewing.

Is $11 normal for MBC beers up in the NYC area? I guess I shouldn't be complaining anymore being that all their beers are between $6 - $10 here in the DC area.

Not normal - I almost always see it at $9.99 at beer stores. Weez, Moe, Mean Old Tom etc etc..
It's only ever north of 11 if its a bar or combo bar/store ...

lunch costs 6.75 or something similar at the park slope food coop, so it's probably costs the retailer about six dollars.

True. The stronger point there are the relative similarities across neighborhoods, which makes the strong vitriol aimed at just Park Slope particularly odd. But it is what it is. I've been in the city long enough to have some sense of belonging, but not nearly long enough to have this kind of built up rage against newcomers that a vocal minority or lifers express.
