The entire reason i got into craft in a big way was going to Russian River a few years ago and trying Pliny. That sent me off on a hop bomb adventure, with boondoggles to Vermont and Decorah IA. Not to mention some killer IIPAs here in Colorado. Loved all that stuff. But over the last year or two my daughter has become a huge Belgian and sours fan, and she has kind of converted me. Trouble is that the IIPAs are just too dang sweet now (although I still love PtE). Still hanging in with the IPAs but I am going to Belgium next month and expect this trend to firm up! Anyone else found this when they veered off into saisons and sours?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with not liking IIPAs, or having different preferences from everybody else. Relax, take your own journey, and enjoy the trip! (the real one as well as the metaphorical one ).

I had to drink my case of Pliny and one of Blind Pig to my head because my son, who got me into craft doesn't do IPA's any more. Hopefully it's just a phase he's going through....:sunglasses:

Once Sours click, you and your wallet are in trouble.

I hear ya on Pliny. That's the one that will always have my heart.

Sounds like you may be drinking the wrong double IPAs.

Your palate sometimes needs a break or changes entirely from one style to another.

As long as you have found the replacement there is no problem. I move from style to style, but come back to the IPA's....double or otherwise.

I started drinking craft beers because of Pliny and other IPA's. I've ventured off to Stouts and porters more now a days, but I have to my Pliny. But like Bowzer4Birdie said, sometimes you do need a change of things and your palate might be blah for IPAs for now, but moving from style to style, I don't see any issues with it. Sometime or another, you'll gravitate back to IPAs before you know it.

There are plenty of days in the week that you can enjoy both DIPAs and sours.

Once i really got into saisons and belgians, some but not all DIPA's became too sweet. My highest rated beers here are both east coast Double IPA's that ill never turn down. I go through cycles though. sometimes all i want for weeks is belgains, others IPAs and others stouts and porters. really depends.

Ebbs and flows man. Do the saison thing and broaden your horizons, just don't dump a style completely. That is what makes a beer lover a beer lover, exploring all the styles and possibilities that beer has to offer. Plus you'll get a lot of sweet beers in Belgium as well. Any good quad can melt the enamel off your teeth. Cheers man

I am always on and off with IPAs. I normally love them during the winter. For the summer months they tend to get too heavy for me and that's when I switch to German Pils

I'm a hop head through and through but have recently been exploring more saisons and sours. As others have mentioned variety is the spice of life, so definitely explore more styles as your tastes change.

That's actually why (while IPA's and DIPA's are my favorite type of beer) I switch it up frequently. I don't want to go through a burn out on a type, and also need a bit of variety in my fridge. It's also allowed me to learn to enjoy heavier beers that I used to dislike.

I think I turn off most beers as well, mostly cuz I'm a hideous, hideous man.

Happens to me quite a bit with doubles as well. I find most are too sweet, even when I go back to old favorites. Still love IPAs and can never go wrong with Sucks!.

I have veered off to try different styles, like gose, Belgians, etc. but I will always be an IPA fan.......
