Well technically a bottling incident with chocolate sombrero would be Mercury brewing's fault since they bottled/brewed it... but with that said Ive never had an issue with a clown shoes bottle.

We used to play Beer Hunter when I was a "young drinker" and the beer cans had the old school pull tabs.

Edd562, sorry for the bad experience. Haven't heard of a Chocolate Sombrero gusher before, so no idea why it happened, but glad to make you whole somehow. I'll send you a BM. Best, Gregg B.

I've had gushers but never with a stout. It's usually a sour, saison or farmhouse style that can empty itself in seconds.

Unfortunately the title of this thread made me think that Clown Shoes had finally teamed up with my favorite chewy candy and they were making gushers with alcohol...maybe some day..

I recently had 2 gushers back to back (not the candy). Bought 2 Prairie Somewhere saison and both gushed on me spilling over half of what was in the bottle. Wasn't too disappointed though I didn't think it was that great.

I was gonna vote "never" but it wasn't an option - but then I recalled I've had a couple where they got away from me a bit - but never a deal where virtually the whole bottle was emptied...

Can you get a refund on beer? Simply asking here, I thought it was like fruit and you can't return a half-eaten piece of fruit.

You definitely can get a refund on beer. Take a photo with your phone, and show them the mess that occurred. The retailer does not have to do anything, but usually a retailer with a good relationship with their wholesaler will provide the refund on spot, and then get reimbursed from the wholesaler. If the wholesaler receives multiple complaints from a brewer, then the wholesaler will come to the brewer looking for additional reimbursement. This would be an example of where the 3-tier system works beautifully. What you don't want is everyone pointing the finger at each other, and in the meantime, the customer (end user) getting screwed.

Good to know. I actually work for a craft beer distributor and we recently had to recall some faulty cans where the lids weren't sealed properly.
