The deal did change after after we agreed on the trade from both sides. And just simply basing myself on the trading rules and the bad trader criteria I didn't fall in that category.

I probably couldnt tell you the last trade I did that ended the way it started. The accept button does not hold much weight in my mind.

Im preety sure Im not the only one who has backed out of a trade like that, I've had people back out on me before. But I did own up to it so even if its not on my trade history (which tells you about trades that included beer ) this thread will still be here and you would have That info all the same. My problem is that it doesn't seem that it was done out of interest for other BA's but rather out of spite

To me that is an important detail. Very important. Once the trade is agreed if there is any changes, well the original deal is off. The context would be important, but the way the feedback is been given it makes it sound like you agreed to a trade, and then the next day you just backed out and changed your mind. If that isn't true that is shitty feedback to leave for sure. I think the details are important. Message the full story to a mod and they can address it

If both parties agree to change after that accept button is clicked, that's one thing. But if both parties do not agree than whatever was agreed upon at the point the button is clicked...that has to happen. It's like a virtual handshake to me.

If you ( @LA_Hue24 ) knew that the Accept Trade was a final agreement saying you were doing this 100%, then it is rather poor etiquette. *Think standing up a date* . However, Id like to hope that if you did indeed get "cold feet" that you and your trading partner could have worked something out to close the trade in an amicable way, which didn't lead to poor feedback. Odd that it happened twice, also odd it seems feedback took so long to be left. Regardless of an accepted trade, if someone really doesn't want to trade, I don't think they should be "Forced" to trade. I understand the purpose of that button is to make it "official" However, we are all adults, and as I said before, I think this all could have been worked out, but sometimes emotions/stubbourness gets the best of us. Hopefully a good lesson to the community to iron out all of the details and only accept if you are 100% committed

I had a guy I won't out on here agree to a a trade with me in writing before I sent a trade request, and I had to buy beer for his ISO. He just stopped replying to messages entirely, and I wish I could leave bad or neutral feedback. I'm still sitting on a few of the beers I bought for him that I don't particularly want.

It made me kind of wary to trade on this site for a few trades afterward.

That would put you at odds with a lot of the traders on here... Most people don't do the trade and accept in the system until all the details are lined up.

That would really piss me off too. If you do a shopping trip to order and the other guy backs out, that sucks for sure

I guess. I haven't had any major issues in my six years of trading. Many of those years there was no Accept button.

I suspect he had a buddy step in a say he wasn't getting enough for his Vanilla Rye, had a better offer in the meantime, or something similar. Not cool. He seemed perfectly happy with the trade and he was the one that was setting terms.

"Backing out" is a relative term, in the old days the equivalent of the "accept" button was exchanging addresses. Once either of those are done, unless the two parties agree to change something, the deal is done.

I think "bad Trader" is subjective ,
To me "Bad Trader" : Theft , Not replacing broken bottles/ wrong bottles, forged bottles, Months delay in shipment with lack of communication or, backing out of trade after other BA has already bought beer specifically for the trade Yes, Ive bought beer just to trade, I don't like belgians, sue me !

To me everything else can go under the "deal with at your own risk/questionable ettitquette" category

I do think that sometimes the "Accept Button" is abused, especially with people that may be taking advantage of certain trades, or wanting to lock a trade in before others can offer beers. Usually happens when the trade is a little more one sided. For instance I posted a FT/ISO for a bottle I really wanted to land, one guy sent me a message saying he has bottle X and sent a request right away knowing full well he was getting a good deal. Incidentally I had many more messages from BA's saying that offer was too generous and they'd send more because the offer was unfair. While the original responder did nothing wrong, the urgency was rather evident he wanted to lock the deal

Seems like there were changes on both sides and no one got stuck with unwanted beer or screwed on this deal. This situation specifically is petty IMO. Wait until you drive around town buying $100 worth of beer for someone and they back out then you can call them out.

Man so many people think the agree button is so final. So if you click agree then the person backs out, you're still going to send the beers, because hey you clicked agree!?
No you wouldn't, nor would you follow through with the trade if you found out you were getting cheated. So don't say once you click agree it's a done deal when you know good and well there are situations you would do the same thing. He just has different standards and what those situations may be. And there's nothing wrong with that.
I would much rather trade with the guy who backed out when he found out he had a bad deal then with a guy who uses the rating system a month later for what looks like spite. This deserved a neutral feedback not a negative or positive.

I see no problem with the feedback as long as it was clearly stated that no beer was lost.

    A few things:

First, I moved this to the Bad Trader sub-forum (for now) as that's a better place for this discussion.

Correction here...only @Todd has that administrative power.

But, if you feel the feedback is unwarranted, contacting one of us is the best way to handle it.

While I agree that sending a message to confirm is a good idea (overcommunication is better than undercommunication in all cases), there should be no need to sticky this concept:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-trading-feedback-system-explained.185895/

    More specficially:

    "Starting a Beer Trade
The feedback system assumes that you've already coordinated or completed a beer trade with another user in person (IP), through a private conversation, or in one of the beer trading forums. You shouldn't make unsolicited requests using the system."

This shouldn't be such a tough concept.

This is correct...We can't see that stuff unless you BM it directly to us or report individual messages.

I agree with Mark here. Personally, this is neutral feedback unless there are extenuating circumstances (e.g., one party purchased beer specifically for the trade and then the other backed out, etc.). You get the idea.

    This is a possible alternative.

Already pinged him once in this response @Todd?

@LA_Hue24 please provide us with more info if you'd like us to take a closer look.

Actually, once you click the agree it *is* a done deal unless both parties agree to let it go. Make up your mind before you hit the button. Otherwise, you expose yourself to the range of responses you see in this thread.

Seriously...if it's ok to accept a trade and then back out, what's the point of the system?

As I mentioned above, while this might not be a *bad* trade, unless both parties agree to drop the trade, *some* feedback is warranted to explain the situation. If people aren't following the rules, the rest of the community (and the mods in particular) need to know so that we can take appropriate action.

If you think we'll hesitate to revoke the trading privileges of or ban someone who makes this a regular practice, you're sorely mistaken.

    Again, not a difficult concept.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't trade. If you don't think you're getting a fair deal, don't accept the trade.

@hustadaj I'd still like to hear more about the specifics here...why did you wait so long to leave feedback. IMO, that's also an important issue in this particular situation.
