Looks like Peter from Glen Ellyn is the lone hold out-- he just tweeted about the Off Color/Jester King collab.

Sucks this happened as I used to follow their accounts around me. The scene has too many terds that don't understand that a case of whales does not consist of 24 beers.

At this point if people have not figured out its all about timing its their fault, but I guess we should not be surprised it finally came to this.

I totally agree with @jlsims04 re: the phone calls as one of the local independent stores by me said they were not giving out info re: whales anymore due to people complaining and not willing to come in.

Couldnt agree more. I wish people would just under stand that you are not entitled to shit. There are two ways to get whales. 1. Get lucky and time it right. 2. Become friends with the staff, they wont hold you everything but in my experience they will hook you up occasionally. The only acceptable responses in either case is, 1. Thank you and 2. Wow you didnt have to do that for me, thank you. Notice how none of the correct ways to repond is throwing a temper tantrum.

If they quit tweeting new releases and stop answering the "Do you have X beer in?" phone calls, it will force people to actually go and find out in person. Oh the horror! This will also cut down on the liquor store employee abuse. Those entitled little pricks aren't as tough in person.
I second the notion of putting everything out on the shelves. Just put the 'limit 1' notes on the shelves. That seems to work.

I am fine with this if the cashiers are educated re: what is limit per 1. The Binnys in St. Charles used to do this back when Pipeworks first made it out to us and the cashiers had no idea (about the limit) so people were walking out with multiple bottles like it was nothing.

Agree, but that includes not being entitled to having a shop use twitter just so I don't have exert as much effort. (not directed at you, by the way)

Yea I dont think its feeling entitled to a twitter, its being dissapointed by people who were entitled and ruined a good thing.

Two of my local Binny's have recently stopped. I've talked to the beer folks at both of them and they both said they just got sick of dealing with idiots. Twitter became more trouble than it was worth (not sure what it was EVER worth to the stores in the first place, though - it's not like they won't sell the product if they don't tweet it)

Cashiers are not paid enough, are mostly part time, often don't know anything about product, and are not well trained.

And you expect an $8 an hour part time housewife struggling to keep her head above water, to remember which beer is "limit 1"? Come on.

I don't expect it but I also think that we can agree this is the reason we don't have harder to find or limited produced beers sitting on the shelf anymore.

I do expect that thouhg. There should be breif education when they start their shift. If they can handle remember to check vintages on obscure wines, double check bnottles that come in sleeves ect I think they can handle remembering the 4 or 5 items that are limit 1 on a given day.

Thinking through this more, I am with @jlsims04 on this. You are getting paid, so it should not matter what you are making. You have one job, to take in money, why would this be so hard to do? Secondly, how hard is it for the salaried manager to give them a list or find a way to tag a bottle or handle through their POS software?

A lot of you are just saying to put everything on the shelves, problem is there are so many beers currently on their shelves that 6 bottles of whale x isn't worth it to put on the shelf when founders IPA sells 100x that. This isn't them holding it in back to be dicks its in the back because shelf space is a premium and bombers that take up more room then their margin per unit don't take precedence over fast selling units.

Looks like Highland Park Binny's(and one of their locations I go to, occasionally when I'm out that way) still has their Twitter account, but no new posts since February. ( https://twitter.com/northshorebeer ) I suspect Highland Park quietly decided to stop using Twitter. It's disappointing to me, but in a way I can't blame them if the abusive and whiny Whale types were why they stopped posting on Twitter when new beers came in.

I'm very surprised Glen Ellyn still tweets about new beers coming in, I bet that'll stop soon. Niles no longer has a Twitter account(appears to be deleted), but interestingly the Clark/Halsted store in the Lake View neighborhood of Chicago still uses one. ( https://twitter.com/lakeviewbeer ) I worry how long that'll continue for?

This is correct. It is not worth moving and changing facings to add a case that will sell in hours.

In theory, the Twitter feeds were supposed to cut down on hundreds of people calling every 15 minutes asking if the latest release was in. Less frustration all around and the beer department could actually get stuff done.

Plus, it was nice to know when non-limited stuff came in. Like, Anti-Hero canned yesterday. Or alerts to an under the radar beer that may be overlooked. It wasn't all BA P-Dubs.

Or drink any of the other beers available at Binny's. There's a lot of them.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. Of course, one can always make a call to that store, or ask an employee when you visit a certain store if a fresh beer shipment of ___ beer(s) just came in. For the most part except during certain busy times(i.e. November GI BCS Black Friday release), I haven't had a prob calling the individual stores up to get an answer.
