It may not be the best beer in the world, but it's perfect when in the Bahamas, combined with the local food and atmosphere...

And, speaking of a shitload of "whole cone hops"....my bines are producing so many cones already...insane! Must be the nutrient rich lake water I use to water them!!

Good morning BAs! Another foggy day here in the Allegheny River drainage of NW PA. For New Beer Friday I'm sucking down this scotch-style ale:

It will not be appearing in the porch bombs I'm preparing for NBS BIF #2, even though it's sort of local (only a five or six hour drive, depending - as close as Victory or Weyerbacher). Too sweet and syrupy.

It's the nutrients in the lake water, the fishes' latrine. Reminds me of W. C. Fields:

Oh, hello BeerAdvocate. Good morning, afternoon, evening, and night to everyone!

Beer Review #735: Shipyard Smashed Blueberry
    [IMG]
Best by 11-8-15, poured 6-12-15. Clearly, Shipyard wants you to drink this one as fresh as possible, despite its high ABV. I suppose you could try cellaring it, but I wouldn't bother.

Appearance: Aggressive pour into the glass didn't do much. Smashed Blueberry is a clear ruby black color. There's really no lacing to speak of, and only a very small khaki-colored ring around the glass. (3.5/5)

Smell: Fantastic/as advertised. This smells primarily like smashed blueberries with some very nice roasty undertones. Really one of the best beers I've ever smelled. Nothing artificial smelling about this beer at all, just a load of blueberries on top of roasted malts. (4.75/5)

Taste/feel: Frustrating sums this up. It definitely has a nice taste to it, but the smell had me hoping for so much more. The biggest drawback I think with this beer is the feel -- I really wish this were just an imperial stout so it was more rich. The body is moderate with this beer, and the carbonation is moderate-to-high, which sort of makes it drink like a sessionable fruit beer -- obviously, at 9%, this isn't a sessionable beer. That's what bothers me most about Smashed Blueberry, but it doesn't ruin the beer at all. The flavor is also a bit of a bummer, since its unlike the aroma. The blueberry's still there, but not in as huge of a way, as it's a bit muddled underneath the roasted malts. Sipping along, this drinks a lot like a 6% porter when -- personal preference, most likely -- I'd like it to be heavier and sweeter in the form of an imperial stout. (3.75/5, 3.5/5)

This is easily one of the better fruit beers I've had despite its shortcomings, and would both have it again and recommend picking it up... just prepare for a taste that just doesn't match in the incredible aroma.

    (3.75/5)

    (3.95/5) rDev +2.6%

    Cheers!

My favorite glass didn't survive the Christopher Lee night I posted about in yesterday's thread. I bought that Antigoon glass while dining at Brasserie Beck. So it goes.

I guess it's fitting that a glass with a logo written in blood would shatter after we've lost Dracula.
