For those who might be sick of consumerism &/or want some really good beer, Dave's is open today from 3-7PM. We'll be out there with (mostly non-beer) friends. If you've never been, you owe it to yourself to get out there & enjoy some of his mad scientist brews. We'll be the party with a bunch of kids scooting around, stop by & say hi if you make it.
Agreed. Wish I could make the trip today. I was out there two weeks ago; only two of our party of 4 drink beer, and we all had a blast. The "[something something]... Picked a Peck of Pickled Peaches" was outstanding; one of my favorites of Dave's many amazing creations.
Delicious! My wife and I made it out a few months ago. Getting a tasting flight is the way to go if it's all new, and if you have a chance, the Mocha Diablo was outstanding! Supposedly with three kinds of peppers, but there was only a hint of heat. It was a fun assortment of people in the taproom.
If Mocha Diablo is ever put out in any quantity, it will put Dave's on people's radar outside of MN/WI. Although one could say that about a number of Brewfarm beers, Mocha Diablo is my favorite to date. Best part is the taps rotate constantly, & you never know what train-wreck-sounding beer you'll love next.
There might be a better thread about this, but I couldn't find it in my limited search - Have we heard anything more about the sale/closing of Dave's Brewfarm? I was fortunate enough to be able to make the trip there on Memorial Day weekend and had a great time and some great beer, but didn't ask the sale of the place. I ask because I came across a post by Dave on Craigslist selling off some of his larger fermentation vessels: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/bfs/5052704698.html
We've known about the potential sale of the farm for a long time, but, unless @BeerBoy (a.k.a., Farmer Dave) tells me different, I'm going to take the equipment sale as a sign that the end is nigh. Thanks for the heads up. Dave's long has been one of the best breweries and taprooms in the area. I rank it as the #2 brewery in Wisconsin behind only New Glarus. It's open June 20-21, 3-7 p.m., for those who are looking for what may be their last chance to visit. It definitely will be missed.
Well... There's nothing imminent, pending or in the works as to the sale of the BrewFarm. We've had an immense amount of interest (15,600+ views of my ad on ProBrewer), numerous showings but nothing solid has presented itself. We're working on a number of new angles and scenarios, which we'll announce when / if they become real. Until then, business as usual, cranking out all sorts of seasonal BrewFarm favorites (Saison Dandy, Saison Rhu, Eye. Pea. Eh?), creating an assortment of new beers (Little Wolf Lager, Temporum Apis, Krye Rolsch) and holding the occasional open Taproom weekends and events. The stuff on CL is "extra" equipment that's taking up space and needs a new home - buy it!!! As usual, if ya got any direct questions, feel free to drop me a note, or better yet, come on out for an open weekend, drink some tasty beers and have a great time! Cheers, FarmerD
Bringing your own food is accepted and you can eat inside or outside. They have some picnic tables outside to use.
Went to Dave's Brew Farm not this past weekend, but the weekend prior and it sounds like a sale is in the works or has been completed. I met the guy who is going to be the new brewer, Nick, who was staffing the taproom along with Dave. I'm not sure what his background is, but he told me he currently lives in NE MPLS and will be moving out to the brewfarm at some point in the near future to run it. He will be running the place with another partner who has a background as a CPA and will handle the regulation/business side of the operation. Nick mentioned that they would initially keep the pattern of 2 taproom weekends per month, but might try to expand to every weekend at some point if the demand is there. He also said they might try to get some tap accounts in WI for places that have more of the farm to table vibe. Probably won't see their beer in MN b/c of distribution hurdles/laws. Not sure what the agreement is with @BeerBoy, but I get the sense that he is staying on for a while to help transition the business and train Nick in on the operation. Not sure if he will want to comment/is able to talk about it, but I tagged him just in case. Can totally understand if he is waiting for the new owners to release/announce the details when they are ready, not trying to put Dave on the spot if that is the case. Also heard that they are planning to change the name, but haven't decided what it will be yet. Looking forward to see what they do with the place, sure have enjoyed my visits to the Brew Farm over the past couple years!
It's Ben, btw... A transition is in place: lots of brewing in the BrewFarm "style" and getting a handle on all the moving parts that make-up the BrewFarm. I am indeed around (prolly through the end of the year) making sure the legacy of all things that make the BrewFarm a special place remain and grow beyond. No, I am not opening a brewery in La Crosse... One aspect of the new iteration is expanding the farm operation, to hopefully include raising heritage animals. That's the short story - as more becomes real, more will be shared. With that, come on out! We're open this weekend (10/3-4 from 3-7 each day) - an old favorite "McAnderson" (Scotch ale) is on the tower and in liters, and the debut of "SunnyD" (a farmhouse ale with Sun Gold tomatoes and Dill). Pack a picnic, grab your grill and make the scene!
How have I never heard of this place? Can't come this weekend, due to work, but hopefully can make it sometime.
