Wow, I wonder if something went wrong with your bottle! I know, different palates and all, but Mokah was the one ST stout that really blew me away, and I definitely found plenty of coffee and roast in it. "Undated bottle" may be the problem here....or you just might not particularly like it.

I would agree. This would fall into a handfull of beers that I "need" (like the occasional Pliny).

Now that the bottle's empty and dry, I can read DOB 03/13/15 - why do they try to make the dates invisible?

This brew pours a cloudy yellow/straw color with a fluffy two finger head which lasts until the end. Good lacing, almost worthy of a Pale Ale, and high carbonation.

The smell is bubble gum and spices. The grains of paradise as well as the advertised corriander can be detected. There is also a fruity smell, (pears? and maybe a hint of banana as the brew warms up), as well as a floral smell. There is also a musty wet straw/wet hay smell lurking just beneath the surface along with sweet malts.

The taste is sweet with a very sweet berry like, bubble gum taste along with lots of sweet wheat. The spices tickle the palette then the sweet, creamy wheat taste comes in. There is just a tiny amount of light spicy hops on the backend. The feel is creamy and the beer goes down smoothly.

Overall this close to the perfect hot day/summer beer.

That really sucks! That's a relatively fresh bottle; oh well. The faintness of their dating (like Lagunitas ) is the reason I don't buy 2xIPA unless it's on tap. It's a lovely, old school DIPA, very tasty and drinkable, but I won't roll the dice at the bottle shop.

Checks. I haven't had Mexican Cake or Huna, but Bomb! is unbelievably delicious, smooth, and drinkable. It's a ~14% nightcap that you forget probably shouldn't be a nightcap, because: holy shit, ~14%!

    New Saison Sunday
    [IMG]
Good morning NBS! I always enjoy what Rockmill puts out and need to pay them a visit the next time I'm in the Columbus area. I shamefully have yet to make it to local Butcher & The Brewer, who they collaborated with on this. This beer is a very nice Saison. Perhaps a bit lighter on the palate than many, but also spicier. There's a nice mix of black pepper, coriander, lemongrass and others I can't put my finger on. I think it would be great paired with some seasoned charcuterie, unfortunately I don't have any on hand. If you're in Ohio and see any of this grab it... and I know I'm preaching to the choir here but also REVIEW it! I was only the 6th review on the beer's page, only the second to actually write anything and I've had the beer for a few weeks now. I rarely post music but had to listen to this while drinking it.

    Go Cavs!!

I love that cliche used motor oil black description, it's a classic! Cool video btw, I discover more new music on Beer Advocate than any other place. Cheers

Good Morning NBS, thanks to Maria for keeping us up and at em"
Congratulations on the anniversary, I greatly enjoy advocacy, and look forward to continued journey.
This morning WMAss is in full on strawberry mode, all the growers are open and the flats are flying out
of the fields. Starting the day with an 11.2 OZ offering from Italy, blend of 3 beers and aged slightly.
I was initially stunned at the nose, but once it warmed slightly, a very intriguing and complex offering.
The beer is quite compelling. My sweetheart is of a VERY different opinion, but I am doing the writing!
    Cheers all

    Brett Peat Daydream

    Birrificio Del Ducato
American Wild Ale / 7.00% ABV

    3.76/5 rDev -0.8% | rAvg: 3.79
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Poured from an 11.2 OZ bottle into a chalice, poured chilled and allowed to warm.
A blend of 3 beers, one barleywine, one scotch ale aged in scotch barrels, one pale ale on Brett in stainless steel.
A - Orange blossom honey, fall straw in color, Reluctant carbonation train feeds a snow white cap. Small islands of lace look for friends as the glass slowly empties.
S - You better love peat, a cloud of it overlays an intriguing cast of characters. Honey, overripe tropical fruit, wet straw, band aid. With an increase in temperature, the peat settles into the parade. Richer malt tones, and those fruits, now with earl grey tea move into the forefront.
T - Considering the composition, this is surprisingly tropical. The peat is relentless, but not out of control. The honey notes and aged fruits stand up to a good push from the scotch ale. The Brett adds a slightly tart and clean bite. All this works in a challenging way.
M - Medium in body, a little slick, the palate is coated with fruited oils, smoked malts, and muted tartness from the Brett. All present simultaneously make for a kind of campfire Jolly Rancher. The linger is pleasant, the close out is slightly tart.
O - After the initial rush of confounding smells, the beer opens up into a complex mix of flavor, from the Peat to apricot jam in the middle stopping for a little kiss of tartness.
This one is for the explorer, the mix of sensory stimulation, can be eye popping.
    Cheers.

As foreshadowed in yesterday's WBAYDN, today's beer is Or Xata. It's a beer meant to represent horchata, which if you don't know (I didn't, thanks Wikipedia), is a creamy drink involving barley or rice and/or almonds and spices (there are varying recipes, my guess is a beer version would use barley but the label says it includes rice). The pics on the varied sites I visited looked tempting.

Don't know why I expected this to be darker, but can't count off for that. Can count off for a complete disappearance of head fairly quickly. Nose actually has a bit of a tang, but I do get a creamy nuttiness, almond-like overall (might be my own bias), as well as the cinnamon and vanilla. Taste starts out light a bit like a lager, but that taste is fleeting, and the flavor begins to mimic the nose the rest of the way.

A tad strange getting the tastes in a lighter (color and feel) beer. I think it's just a tad lighter than I'd wished for, but I don't mind the flavor. I can see how there might be some polarized reviews on this one.

    New American Black Ale Sunday,

    Greetings NBSer's,
Thanks for starting us off and congrats @utopiajane on two years on BA.
We've certainly been able to enjoy some classic June weather here lately, especially the lovely mornings, which is true again today. But that sun on my back sure gets hot quickly. That doesn't happen in January in these parts.
A Utah beer today. For a bunch of Mormons they sure make a lot of beer. I think it's the entrepreneurial part of the culture.

A very solid Black Ale, or Am. stout? As this has, IMO, a clear stout foundation. Regardless, enjoyable.

Greetings everyone. I'm currently in Tacoma, WA awaiting tomorrow's start of the U.S. Open. I need to go out and find some beer for NBS, so I shall return later. Anyone in the Tacoma area that wants to meet up over the next week or so, for a beer, I'm open to suggestions.

As I was closing in on review #1,000, I started to wonder what I should do for it, and I had a bottle of Local #1. My friend Justin happened to have a bottle of Local #2. So we got together, and #1 was 1,000 and #2 was 1,001. That was 1,500 beers ago. Damn.

Post this message in the NW forum, meeting with a few BAs for a beer won't be difficult. I suggest The Red Hot and Engine House 9 in Tacoma.

Local #1 has become a beer I always try to have in the fridge, and there are very few beers that fit in that category (Imperial Biscotti Break for GF). Recall not enjoying #2 that much, but I have no rating for it, so I probably need to try it again to remedy the situation of relying on memory and get a review in so it doesn't happen again.

hi NBS'rs! Many of you may be familiar with gem.

this is a nice summer treat. As you can see Anchor Summer Wheat is a clear, straw light colored brew, with a tightly packed white head. Smells coming off the 45 degree wheat beer are light crackery lemon notes with a light euro hop note peeking in. Anchor really assembled a great tasting low ABV summer with spritely lemon-lime, light peppery backbone and that light crackery note. With a medium-light body and slick smoothness on the tongue, it has enough effervescence to tickle the roof and edges slightly. Refreshing with enough going on to hold your attention. A winner.

Weather in my neck of the woods is not cooperating for yardwork. Guess I'll chill and enjoy a few quaff with all ya'll, so enjoy the rest of your day!

Good call. One could stroll between the two for a kind of back-and-forth pub crawl, both have great beers. I've been duplicating a sandwich from Red Hot since I was last there in November.

Happy NBBS - New Brettanomyces Berliner Sunday! Let's get right to the review.

The citrus and lemon acidity jump out right away with some floral hops. Some funky wheat, grain and Brett along with notes of oak and musty white grapes.

Nice lemon tartness on the front and doesn't become too vinegary. A wheat funk with some grainy notes and musty grapes. I can taste the Berliner base, but the Brett gives it other flavors that work well together.

Light and refreshing with lively carbonation and a body. A nice tart dry finish. This series has been fantastic and this one is excellent. Really excited for the Peach version of this series in about two weeks!
