Without calling out specific names or getting into a flame war I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on people who always chime in on trades or claim they closed a ridiculous trade. I'm talking about the people who constantly reiterate a one time ridiculous trade to justify why certain trades should get done even though we all know that said bottle doesn't trade nearly that high.

Do you guys dismiss those comments? Does it irritate you? Do you laugh at them? Personally I know ISO's dictate trade value and demand and no amount of "this should get done" really sways my perceived perception of trade value, especially when those comments are coming from people who have the bottles FT.

    Please be civil. Lol.

I just ignore them. Same as I do with all the other people in life who annoy me

The trading community on BA is quite a bit smaller than everyone thinks.

There is a reason that the "ignore" function exists. . .

I've seen people comment when the cited trade is clearly an outlier or there's little to no indication that it actually was completed. Such comments, when framed politely, are -imo- appropriate & potentially useful to new traders.

It's also amusing when someone is vouching for another trader posting stuff like, 'Hook ABC up. He's an AWESOME trader' & the person making the recommendation has just a few fb & join date of 4-6 wks ago.

I think they are perfectly fine, and I expect all my trades to go based on certain completed trades. For instance a few years back one guy here completed this trade. ISO Beatification FT Absolutely nothing. Don't want to put the name of the guy here but if you mssg me I will tell you who it is in case you think I made this up.

As to OP I absolutely agree, and I think all good traders know who you are talking about and also feel like they wish the hype blather would stop.

The vouching is always interesting to me. I'm not going to be swayed to trade with someone because another stranger says its cool. Isn't trade history our built-in vouching system?

What irritates me is when I see a person claim they got a ridiculous trade done, so the OP they are commenting on "should have no problem getting this done" then the person posts an ISO the next day for way less than he supposedly got his done for, not to mention repeatedly posting the same trade which gets done and closed every time. Kind of ridiculous.

I've got a few friends that'll chime in here and there and I think its great. It might not help me get my trade done but I appreciate them trying to help out. I can see how it wouldn't make a difference to most strangers reading it though.

Some of that has to do with the fact that the feedback system is still pretty recent. I think prior to that, the only way to know is to have people vouch for you. While I don't personally do it, but I think for some traders, seeing an experienced trader putting in some good words for a new trader adds a bit of comfort to it. I tend to take into account the trade, for whatever little value it may adds, a little more when I see a good past trade partner says something about a trader I haven't dealt with.

I really wish users could lock trade posts from replies. If you got a problem, comment, or wish to engage me in trade, that's what PM's are for. Everything else, go away.

It irritates me when I see someone from a particular state (state x) offer up a beer from state x looking for beers that are from out of the area then other traders from state x come in & tell the OP how they aren't asking for enough or that they should just keep it or make the other person add, etc.
It's as if they think that if the trade is done as offered that it creates some sort of precedent that you can't go against. Every trade is different & there is no single trade that dictates the overall value of a beer.

I personally think all comments should be disabled in the ISO forums a la "Beer Tickets". If people want to discuss or negotiate it, do it via BM. There is no need for people to chime in and sway people one way or another. If your offer is a good one, the trade will be completed. If it isn't, out come the crickets.

But...but then how would we keep the hate level for the mods so high? :grimacing:

We might only be Second Wurst (a promotion?).

Kidding aside, I agree with this in large part. Probably 85-90% of ISOs don't *need* any comments or responses.

One thing that would help (IMO) would be a searchable database of completed trades. That way people could see what really got done and how often. Yes, yes, it could be abused, but then again so can any system. Rampant abuse tends to get noticed, especially when the users of the system are heavily invested in making sure it works and continually improving the system. (That means you all would also be responsible for reporting perceived fakes).

That said, much as this would decrease my workload, there are any number of situations where the comments are valuable and useful (and often not just to the OP).

I find this to be true especially for newer users and often for some of the more obscure/small releases (there are more and more of them) out there. Rabid tickers aside, it's nearly impossible to keep up with things these days.

If people would just listen to and play by the rules, it wouldn't be so bad at all.

    /today's PSA.

One instance i can think of is when pappy board meeting was released and there were these two specific traders from here in cali,( i wish i knew who they were so i could call em out), but anyways they were giving it a perfect 5 on the ratings and goin on each others trade post and saying " super generous offer" when they were trying to land whalez, it was fuckin pathetic.

I generally encourage constructive comments/criticism whenever I post a trade offer, if I'm off then I want to know it.

Those same comments/criticism can be made via private message, allowing you to decide if the offer needs to be updated, or not.
