This. If your already not serving in proper glass wear just use the easiest option.

If you're going to get all eco-touchy-feely, isn't it better to simply wash glassware?

Is this event in full sun by chance?
Corn starch (compostable) cups will degrade and begin to dissolve in sunlight and heat.

Jesus would want you to use compostable cups.

OP didn't mention what beer(s) were being served, so how do you know the OP is not "using" the proper glass wear? I know of quite a few beers are "properly" served in a Pint Glass.

Find a brewery to sponsor your event and give away free tulips/snifters to your guests in exchange for ordering five kegs that won't sell.

Never mind, I've been in the industry too long. Red Solo cups make for a good alternative option.

Some folks believe shaker pints are improper for every beer.

What you are doing is hosting a party. No one will care. If they do. You know who to not invite back.

I have no problem with the compostable cups. I've had many excellent beers served in them at brewery anniversary parties and the like.

If you really want to save time and money, order a keg. Buy a large punch bowl. Have the guests cup their hands and dip in. Make sure to leave a hand towel nearby. Quite simple. Once the event is done, you'll smile as you're cleaning one punch bowl instead of 50 glasses

I'm very aware of this recent trend, but I disagree and have no problem calling out someone who I feel is being way too exacting(particular) about glassware choices. In fact, I counted over 50 styles of beer on the BA section Glassware for Beer http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/101/glassware/ listed under the Pint Glass style.

no problem. I was in Vermont and I went into a convenience store,
and I bought a bomber of Cadillac Mountain stout. Tasted great in
the convenience store's paper coffee cups.

Plastic never works- I don't enjoy going to beer tastings stores
With the Brewer gives out samples in plastic cups.

Paper works fine when no glassware is available.

I agree with you and I have no problem using any of my shaker glasses. You sounded genuinely unaware that some folks have a problem with the shaker, sorry.

I think Cavedave was simply pointing out that there are people who don't like Shaker Pints. I have a number of them at home and they were the first "Beer glasses" I started to collect. But I rarely use them now as I think there are better options for most styles. There are some nice things about the Shaker pint: inexpensive, easy to clean, stack well in the dishwasher, the weight makes for a nice hand feel. They are popular with bars and restaurants for these reasons. If you have a number of different logo Shaker pints they make for easy identification at a party. An earlier poster remarked that they may be the better environmental option as they can be cleaned and reused - almost always better than a single use vessel. I think most people here would tell you to use whatever you like, it is your beer after all, and taste is so subjective.

people can bring their own favorite glass. Less headaches and expense for you, and who knows, you might end with somebodyelses favorite glass at the end of the day.

do you have access to 45-50 shakers?
do you want to wash 45-50 shakers?
    what about risk of breakage?
    indoors or outdoors?
How are the compostable cups being handled? You or Industrial compost?

I know for me that i don't have 45-50+ shakers on hand and not a fan of washing that many glasses post event. Even renting 50+shakers they must be clean on return and an added cost plus the possibility of breakage comes into play always when you have wet cold glass and people consuming beverages.
There are many viable Biocompostable glass options out there but just check with your city's waste management to be sure they can accept the cups before you commit.

Thanks for the thoughts folks. The event is outside in a partly sunny area, I have amassed shakers from brewery's across the country over the years so if I go that route each attendee would have a different one. Lastly, I will be serving everything from IPA's to Quads, and Sours to Stouts. A dishwasher would do the bulk of the washing but I expect the "Q" portion of the event to create a bunch of dishes as well.
