Simply put, this a thread for you to voice your support for a beer that you feel hasn't gotten a fair shake.

I tend to review beers that I think are underrated, underappreciated, and/or flying under the radar. I had again a beer tonight that I feel is criminally underrated:

    Uinta Anniversary Barley Wine Ale
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1416/3840/?sort=recent&start=0

There aren't too many non-BA barleywines that I've enjoyed more on a consistent basis. I love me some SN Bigfoot, but I like this one even more...so well balanced all around, with a malt profile that I really enjoy. Yet, its ratings are pretty mediocre, with scores well below those of Bigfoot, Gnarlywine, Old Guardian, Old Numbskull, etc.

So, what do you think BAs? What beer isn't getting the credit it's due?

UNITA throws some good quality brews out (Hop Nosh being a really good IPA), the reason why they're not as highly rated because you can find their products just about anywhere. If they had brewery only releases their brews would be higher on the score board.

With that stated, I Advocate a local beer from Union Brewing named Old Pro. I'm not a huge Gose Style fanatic, but Old Pro is like drinking a Lemon/Lime Gatorade. It's slightly sour with a saltine handshake but so balanced it's not a chore to drink. I could crush more than three in one setting.

Orpheus' Transmigration of Souls. Such an amazing beer. Not that it's underrated, it just isn't known very well outside of Georgia (yet).

Schell's Brewery took some criticism awhile back for not being a "craft" brewery, which was total BS!!! Schell's produces many great "German craft" beers. Also, kudos to them for keeping a MN tradition alive by continuing to brew Grain Belt!!!

I know they are pretty well respected here, but at the same time, I feel like they don't get the appreciation they deserve due to their size and availability... Sierra Nevada. Always good beer from SN, doesn't matter the style!

Boulevard doesn't get a lot of recognition, at least not that I hear, but most of their beers are excellent

Deviant Dale's IPA. One of the juiciest, most tropical IPAs I've had. I believe it is rated 89 but it should be higher IMO.

Goose Island IPA and DFH Festina Peche

English Style IPAs will never rate highly here, even the best ones. Also, Festina Peche is a great berliner. If you read some of the "reviews" some people that don't like sours review the beer anyway. It doesn't make sense.

Flying under the radar, hopefully not for long though, is Kent Falls Brewing in Kent, Connecticut.

And OP totally agree about Uinta barleywines. Every one I have had from them has been astoundingly good.

If I had to pick out a single beer and say this beer did not get enough credit I would say it had to be sarancs black IPa that i tasted in one of their cases. It was so fresh and so well done. Perfectly bitter and perfectly black but colorful with so much citrus.

and be a homer too a little =)

Definitely I would also have to add Great divide in there too. Yeti is awesome and everything else I've had from them is good.

Lagers. I find myself advocating for them even among BAs.

But more specifically, I'm always singing praise on Marble Brewery in Albuquerque. Their Imperial Stout, Reserve and other BA beers have been consistently awesome. But many regular lineup items --- Imperial Red, IPA, Pilsner --- are so damn good but get overlooked.

I believe someone on BA even accused me of starting some smoke & mirrors thread as a way of hyping Marble's beers.

The beers I advocate for are usually the ones I throw in as extras during a trade. So if you trade with me you will probably get some of these as extras.

    FFF Zombie Dust
    FFF Gumballhead
Revolution Anti-Hero + other Rev stuff
    Lakefront IPA

I try to keep these stocked to spread the goodness.

The Bier Brewery's Sanitarium - even my friends in Indy who like good beer balk at paying $20 for a bomber of this, but it is utterly spectacular with a little age on it. Both times I've gotten one I gave it a good 8 or 9 months and it was magnificent.

Berkley Abbey Strong Ale. These guys were at ACBF and NEVER had a line in front of them, yet if you sort the beer list by ratings, that beer was by far the highest rated. It's been passed by a few beers now, but during the festival it was #1.

Just got tipped off by a BA that CBC Newton had bottles for sale and drove over Sunday to buy a couple.

True but if you're outside of Chicago area you probably don't have access to try these out.

Admittedly, I've only had a few barleywines, one being Uinta's Anniversary, another being SN Bigfoot, and I preferred Anniversary. I'll have to get it again since it's been a while.

I also never hear anything about Unita's Bristlecone Brown Ale. I think it's pretty great if you're looking for a session brown ale with lots of good flavor.
