Since we're looking at near 110 in Phx, I do this quite often with my new favorite style: Helles Lagers. I never care what anyone thinks because it's what I like. To answer your question though, no, it's not wrong. I will say that I'd never do with with a big stout or BW, usually it's just some of my summer ales and lighter drinking brews during the hotter months.

I usually drink them right out of my fridge so whatever average fridge beer temperature is. I think we all have experienced that feeling of being given a chilled glass/ice cold beer on a really hot, humid day and at that moment it is complete nirvana. So don't listen to those who will say pretentious things such as "chill the beer if you don't really care about tasting it." They are not you so drink it how you like it. Everyone has different tastes, right? Some like their steak burnt to a crisp, some like it bleeding. :-)

Regarding English practices, beer is normally served at 52 to 55 degrees.Cool but not cold and to be truthful it works better that way. I can't swallow great gulps of ice cold liquid , warm it just a little and down it goes.

A pal and I used to say "ICE COLD BEER!!" as code for "This ________ [fill in the blank] which is supposed to be awesome is actually kind of lame and misguided."

Totally up to you how you want to drink the beer you buy, as others have stated.

You might want to re-consider the frosted glass though. It is not a temperature issue, it is a taste issue. If you frost a glass in a freezer that is being used for pretty much anything else, particulate form those items is now on your glass and then in your beer. Have some hamburger patties in the freezer? Now you have hamburger particles in your beer. Ice cream? Ditto.

The textbook answer to your questions:
    • You're dulling the flavor of the beer and it's not really the ideal way to enjoy the beer at its best.

    The answer that matters:
    • Do what you like and drink it how you like it, don't overthink it.

I don't frost my glasses, but my father routinely drinks his out of frosted pint glass (often a green Rolling Rock shaker pint he's had for probably longer than I've been alive) during the warmer months. I was splitting a bomber of Stoneface IPA with him a few weeks ago on a day that was 90+ degrees and humid after helping with some yardwork, and I had no qualms about him pouring my half into a freezing cold shaker pint as well.

    Ideal for the beer? No.

    Ideal in that scenario? Absolutely.

Imo there is a refreshment factor in enjoying beer that is enhanced at a lower than "ideal" temperature.

I drink my beer at exactly 54.2°. Anything else is wrong. And you should be ashamed of yourself!

Cold temperatures definitely inhibit the release of a lot of flavour-related compounds but if you enjoy beer cold, then you should drink it cold.

If it's a hot summer day and I want a refreshment, I definitely don't go for a warm beer! It's just like anything, there's a time and a place for both.

I like all my beverages cold. I hate the sticky, cloying feeling beers get as they warm. If you like 'em cold, drink 'em cold.

I get run over the coals for this, but I pour all of my IPA's into one of the may pints that are in my freezer. I usually sip it ad smell it right after the pour. I will usually have a couple of sips, then wait til it starts to warm up a tad bit. All darks go into a room temp pint or sniffer. Just what I like. All beers behave different. I remember getting a Shiner Cheer the first time and said I hate that beer. I set the glass down and came back to it after about 10 minutes and was like, shit that ain't bad. It just needed to warm up. So all beers are different, what works for you works for you. Have at it.

I serve all pales very cold (chill haze). Don't care what anyone thinks. That first sip, for me, should be refreshing. Same goes for most lager styles. Frozen glasses I do not like.
