    Received some very unfortunate news this evening that my childhood puppy passed away at the age of 16.5 years. I remember picking her out with my sister in the store, back on Father's Day in 1999. She was a black lab/Chesapeake bay retriever mix, a lovable goofball and my best friend for a number of years.

    If you weren't showing her enough attention she would sit behind the curtains in my parents living room and let the bottom of it drape over her head like a hood and just start wagging her tail frantically, knowing it would make us laugh and get our attention. She still did it even in her old age, half blind and unable to bark more than a whisper, just to get us to smile.

    Few things on this earth really compare to a dog's capacity for unconditional love, and their only inherent flaw is that their lives are too damn short.

    I had this last summer and loved it. Completely off my radar until I read @superspak s description on NBS.

    Great mix of breeds. I had one named Bo same mix. Dog did everything with me. Only about 12 when I had to let her go.
    You're right they never complain ....just love. That's an amazing age for a dog of thta breed to live. Sorry for your loss.
