Poll: red shirt or blue shirt?

    ...Depends on my mood.

Ale all the way. Lagers have their place, but most of the time I want more of the flavors you can only get from an ale. I love hops. But Sierra Nevada Hoppy Lager 2015 was pretty darn good, I have to give them props for that one.

Red shirt if I am going into a crowded area with my family so they can find me. Or if I want to show support for the US troops. Blue otherwise.

Why would anyone cherry pick? They're all available, we all win.

    And no, I didn't add a vote.

Piece of cake. Give the pollsters the power to pre-select who gets polled and they can get you any result you (or they) want to see.

But whose definition is it? Who said that beers should be defined by yeast type? It's at best a rough and ready idea because straight away Kolsch doesn't fit , it becomes an ale though the Germans don't brew ales and define Kolsch as a lager anyway.
Some things get repeated so often they are taken as gospel. I have read over and over again that Edison invented the light bulb, a few minutes of research demolishes that but it's still widely believed.
Ales and stouts are brewed the same way it's true.Americans and Canadians are made the same way and have many similarities ( most Europeans can't tell them apart) but are considered separate people because of where they come from , background and provenance.Ales have a different background and provenance from stouts as well as from top fermented beers from Germany.
    Let me quote from of all things the BJCP guidelines;
In Germany and other old world brewing centers, the terminology most typically used to
differentiate beers is to refer to them as top fermenting or bottom fermenting.
Germans think of ale as a type of English beer, and lager as a method of conditioning beer. So Germans would typically speak of Kölsch as a top fermenting lager beer, not an ale.

I feel on BA nowadays there's a shift of, "too many people like ales, and are ignorant", soooooo... now you should say lagers are the best and ales suck!

But I'll be honest I try hard to love lagers and they just pale in comparison to ales for me!

?? Quite curious as to how long you spent lurking and reading the various forums before becoming a member? I personally have lost count of the number of times I've seen a post saying something along the lines of "Lagers suck, ales are the only thing worth drinking" with only a few people arguing that lagers have their own merits.

Maybe we look at different posts, but I've seen more than enough people pushing lagers in and ales out, and usually, done with a chip on the shoulder.

I lagered up! It was good enough for monks after all.
Also, Jack's Abby has proved to me that you can get the same flavor profile from every style.

Do I drink more lagers than ales? Not even close. Of course, neither is the selection.

Seeing different posts can make a difference for sure, but I don't think there's much difference in the behavior of the "I prefer lagers" group when compared to the "I prefer ales" group when it comes to pushing and shoulder chips, except that those who prefer lagers are vastly outnumbered.....

Edit: Thats often what happens when people insist on dividing their world into either/or categories. BTW, if you use the reply button when replying to a particular person the system alerts them that you've replied.

You're correct on that. Chips on shoulders everywhere. I just feel as though sometimes people posting die hard lager comments go as far as to rule out very clearly incredible beers within the ale style for the sake of being the "more knowledgable BA who turns down ales because they're too popular" guy. But we could play that game and go back and forth on who's more pretentious all day.

Thanks for the instructions on simple thread posting?

Ales have the variety and are where the flavors really get amped up, so for me, it's really no contest.

Although my favorite style is a lager, I find myself drinking and preferring way more ales.

I chose 'ale' but it really doesn't matter to me as long as it's a style that I like from within those two families of beers.
