    question for the group.
I dropped off a box at FedEx this morning got a phone call an hour ago saying that I needed to call them they have a question about my box.

I know the box was packed perfectly with styrofoam shippers. Should I call then and lie about what's in there?

Absolutely. I like using "they're marinades". Worst case scenario they say "but they're beer bottles" and you can alwys say you reused beer bottles and filled them with marinades." That leaves them the choice to open the bottles trying to prove you wrong, or send it along.

edit: bizarrely, the first way I tried to answer this: "Absolutely. I recommend lying by saying they're marinades. Worst case scenario they say "but they're beer bottles" and continue the lie and say "I reused beer bottles and filled them with marinades"." Was "blocked" by BA's "security"....?

I had this happen once and had an answer prepared and it turned out that the label was unreadable due to tape, so its not necessarily a suspicion of alcohol.

Related note: the FedEx employees in my area have been absolute jerks lately, its getting to be more of a pain to ship beer. Might be switching to UPS to see if they're any better.

    The MLB rules state:
"These rules will be enforced through a warning and fine system, with discipline resulting for flagrant violators. No fines will be issued in Spring Training or in April of the 2015 regular season. Donations will be made to the Major League Baseball Players Trust charitable foundation based on the level of adherence to the new rules."

And this about the Harper incident: He insisted that Harper was not ejected because of the batter’s box issue. “Had nothing to do with the box,” Hudson said. That fits MLB rules, which state a batter’s box violation is an umpire warning on first offense and league penalty on the second offense; not an ejection.

I don't have the Giants, but I don't know that the LIF will hit exactly as written. I looked at the Pagan clip (just saw on twitter yesterday). It looks like a straight balls/strikes arguing, not much batter's box action.

But it's your LIF! You decide what's a hit and what's not! You're Commodus in Gladiator. Thumbs up or thumbs down, you call it.

I think ill go with your marinade idea.

could a 3rd option be just ask to give me the box back?
The lady at fedex has is out for me i swear. Last time i dropped a box off she told me out of the blue shipping alcohol was a 10,000 fine. This is the first time she hasnt asked me whats in the box. Then I get a phone call from that local drop off spot an hour later. I feel like the phillies are have better luck than me this week.

Do you print labels at home? Every time I've dropped off a box with a label, the only thing they say is "want a receipt."

Marinades as well as salad dressings/hot sauces/bbq sauces all work..

I've been having all my boxes held at my local FedEx location. My fedex guy likes to toss boxes on my front steps, without actually walking up the steps. And has resulted in multiple broken bottles..

I agree Pagan was a balls and strikes ejection,
but now im not sure how to set up the LIF. No Ump wants to be the guy to throw out a player so they just say it was for arguing balls and strikes. Harper's ejection was clearly the foot in the box setting off the ump.

I think ill have to amend the LIF.
Who has San Fran, i think i should still send something even if its a local sixer.

@cosmo4u definitley keep us updated on what happens. I'm always intrigued by these things.

I actually print labels at home and use a third party drop-off location. I've talked with the guy for long periods of time and they get paid by people dropping off boxes there.

He still hasn't said a peep to me even after my sister in law dropped a box off for me and erroneously made the comment 'wow you'll never go out of business with how much beer my brother in law sends'. Doh!

I'm a BBQ Sauce/Rub man myself. I'm a Competition BBQ'er and send my based sauce and rubs to friends accross the country that also compete.

Works likes a charm w/ UPS.

She's full of shit, there's no way there's a $10,000 fine and NO ONE on BA has ever heard of it or ran across it. Had anyone been slapped with one, you know there'd be a thread about it and it'd become common knowledge that by doing this we're risking that (in the same way that we all know we're risking our beer being lost/broken/stolen etc).

I would pick a different FedEx dropoff spot, or switch to UPS. I would not ask for my box back, that's like admitting you're up to something shady. My MO is to stare them back in the face and dare them to pull some shit, threaten legal action for harassment, whatever, until they back the fuck off.

Ooof, this is a very important step. A couple times I've walked in and used their computer station to make my own label and use their printer, but that's basically the same thing. Having them make the label for you opens up the chance for so many more questions. I also have never gotten more than a "Would you like a receipt" with a pre-printed label.
    Ouch!
I'm sure that works, and I'm sure it doesn't make a difference if the shit hit the fan, but I use the word "marinade" rather than "sauce" because who's to say I don't use beer AS a marinade?

Hey, I'm a native Texan so I know "good" BBQ! None of that wimpy vinegary sauce here! :stuck_out_tongue:

But no, not much good BBQ up here.

Although, we did just get a "Texas BBQ" place where the pit master is from Texas. They do it really well. It's nice having a Texan in Seattle that I can talk BBQ with. I acutally get my raw briskets and shoulders from him.

@LehighAce06 I agree she is full of it.
@PA-Michigander you asked for an update...
I called the local place and she said they ran it through the x-ray machine and wanted me to clarify what was in the box.
I used the Marinade excuse and she accepted it. But warned me not to ship beer...fines etc etc

    Moral of the story:
print out your own labels and use another fedex shop

Glad it worked out for you, what a busybody. I'm always nervous when I can hear the liquid, which is why I throw pennies into my boxes. But there's not much you can do about the "beer shift" if you guys know what I mean, that feeling of the liquid moving back and forth in the bottle when you pick up a box. If some employee like her picks it up and feels that...ugh.

That's as bad as when the UPS guy almost asked if he could buy some of the "maple syrup" I'm always sending around the country. Luckily I got out of there before he could pop the question :flushed:.

Good point. I don't really think that's a believable story.
