Does anyone else feel like the guys over at Flying Dog deserve a little more attention? For years I was turned off by their marketing, and generally thought of most of their offerings as pretty bland. Over the past year or so, I've been incredibly impressed by the majority of the many new beers they've put out. Nobody seems to talk about them though. Anyone else feel the same?

I would love to know their reputation locally, but I think like any brewery they make beers that I have enjoyed and beers that I have not enjoyed. For example, I am a big fan of their single hop IPA's such as Citra, Galaxy, HBC 431 and El Dorado. Citra was highly talked about by a salesman at my local store so I tried it. Ever since then I always go for their new single hop releases. And there are not many breweries whose $14.99 six packs I will buy without having first tried. I also like their Vineyard Blonde and Gonzo Imperial Porter.

One the other hand, I think that their Hoppy Wheat, Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout and Double Dog IPA are no good.

Which of their new beers are you referring to? Any in particular that you would recommend?

I've started picking up any of the brewhouse rareties that I come across. They might not always hit it out of the park, but they range from good to great, in my opinion. The rate that they're churning them out is impressive, as well.

I'm a fan of the Imperial Porter. Highly underrated around here. I'm not so familiar with their other beers.

I truly enjoyed their doppelbock and their oyster stout. Great stuff.

I enjoyed several varieties, especially the Porter and Hefeweizen, unfortunately they pulled out of my area

I'm a fan, especially of their labels! I love Stedman's art, and the clever dog-themed names.

I've had several of their beers, as @Moonman1206 stated above, "they might not always hit it out of the park, but they range from good to great[.]". Also like @Moonman1206, I've also picked up the brewhouse rareties that I come across, and have been impressed with many of them.

I agree with the OP, Flying Dog does, in my opinion, deserve more attention.

Flying Dog is sold. Their bloodline IPA was a really solid drink and accessible for even those "non-beer" drinkers. I really like their raging bitch. They are one of those rare breweries that has beers for everyone, the most self professed beer haters to craft die hards. Their beers might not be great every time but no brewery is going to get it right every time. Their art, well Ralph Steadman's art, is just great. making their six-packs and bottle art just the icing on the cake.

I try (and like) most of their stuff. Raging Bitch is probably the one I've returned to the most. Great beer, probably my favorite Belgian IPA.

$14.99 6 packs? Really? Not bustin' on ya, but that's way up there.

I've had 3 of their offerings: Bloodline, The Truth, and HBC-431... I found them all to be pretty mediocre. Sorry guys.

I'm going off memory, but yes I believe that was the price. Maybe $12.99 or $13.99, but no less than that. And I agree that's high. I held off buying Sculpin for a very long time due to the $14.99 price tag here.

im not arguing that 14.99 is high but depending on where you are its not that high comparitivly. Where I am BP is 22 for a 6 pack but 12 for flying dog. so really its all relative

Can't really say I've liked any Flying Dog brews, plus I think the labeling is stupid. Same for DuClaw

Solid brewery. I like many of their beers, and I love Gonzo, Raging Bitch, and Horn Dog.

I've noticed a lot of people hating on Flying Dog. Don't understand why. A lot of people say they don't like their labels but I don't know why people let their hatred of their labels influence their opinion of their beers. Or maybe they're just not trying the right beers from them. Raging Bitch is decent. Horn Dog and Bloodline are both very good beers from them. Pearl Necklace and Gonzo are pretty good as well. Personally, I like their labels and most of their beers.

Just had an 08 gonzo a few weeks ago, it held up surprisingly well. Love raging bitch, I think the Belgian IPA style is awesome despite all the hate it gets.
