Abbreviations on BeerAdvocate

Yeah, this comes up every so often. Folks should type it out at least once. In the NW, we have several breweries that could by the initials BB, it gets confusing.

Kind of annoying in the way that having to work is annoying. I don't like it, but I deal with it because it's not going to go away.

And there are times where it's useful. If I'm talking about what bourbon county beers I was able to pick up, I'd rather say:

I got some BCBS and some BCBCS. Missed out on the BCBVR, and wasn't interested in the BCBBW

instead of typing out:

I got some Bourbon County Brand Stout and some Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout. Missed out on the Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Rye, and wasn't interested in the Bourbon County Brand Barleywine

 

But seriously, if you don't know one, just copy and paste to Google search and add the word beer after it. Works every time

 

wtf? which means why the face? as far as my seventh graders know.

 

I will volunteer to put together a list, and offer the concept to the site admins that that list should be a sticky in the General forum. I've seen this at other places and it's very useful for new people to the site. Also others can feel free to add to the list for items I may have forgotten as well

Yeah a lot of Abbreviations, but this is the era of Cell phones and mobile devices when many people feel its ok because otherwise they personally have to work harder. You'll also see that a lot don't want to assume responsiblity for the errors introduced by auto correctors, etc..

Only solution I've seen so far is that if there's one you don't just understand ask for clarification.

If nothing else it will get your score for total posts higher faster.... :-)

 

I'd recommend reconsidering your stance on trying out BCBBW (Bourbon County Brand Barleywine).

 

This is a good thread in the fact that we need to have a thread that explains all the abbreviations to be searched.

 

Haha - yeah I've had it before. Just not really a BW fan in general, and this one was no different. More for everyone else!

For you, its the NWT... (Sometimes known as the North West Territories.) @beertunes is located in the SNW (Sometimes known as the Southern North West. :-)).

Yes. I agree, but it takes longer to SAY WWW than world wide web.

 

Doesn't bother me. A majority of the ones used are pretty famous or well known beers. Like others have said it take 2 seconds to google one that you don't know.
