Found lots of Dissenter in Kalamazoo last week next to the Blushing Monk.

And I was getting ready to say: "Great news for the hop-heads". Then I read all the comments. Looks like, even the hop-heads aren't too happy with this. Another dud in Backstage Series IMO.

You're not the only one passing. There's still bottles of Blushing Monk, Big Lushious, and Dissenter sitting all over my area of MA.

The hop profile sounds awesome. I'll definitely be checking this out. Founder's does fantastic things with hops (for the most part).

5 years ago this would've been big news. Now no one really cares about another $10 large format DIPA.

The hop profile is what makes this beer sound good to me but also not worthy of being a Backstage beer...it's a trio of hops that dozens of breweries use so its not "experimental."

I get the crave for a barrel aged brew (I love them), but I think Founders gets a pass to try something not barrel aged during the summer.

We all know Founders' barrel aging game is strong with their annual releases of Backwoods Bastard and KBS, so lets see how this Imperial Red IPA is before attacking it or Founders. Also, I would argue this beer falls within their intentions of creating a unique and experimental beer as Founders currently doesn't make an Imperial Red IPA and there aren't really many readily available in the market. Plus, I'm really liking the suggested retail price being set at $9.99.

I wasn't a huge fan of Dissenter, Big Lushious or Blushing Monk, but at the end of day - Founders' passion is "beer brewed for us". So who cares what we think - Founders can brew whatever they want because they earned their reputation as legitimate brewers and I'll always buy the next backstage series brew because they've also earned my respect.

True, but there have been other releases in the Backstage Series that hundreds of breweries have brewed and weren't really "experimental" either: Bolt Cutter (a partially barrel-aged barleywine) and Dissenter (an Imperial Pale Lager). It's not experimental, sure, but it sounds pretty great to me.

I'm a Founders homer, I'll buy anything from them just to give it a try. I agree with earlier posts about "another DIPA" in a large format. It's not original. I'll probably buy and happily drink my 2 bottles but every time I go to the beer store and see it rotting on the shelf next to Big Lucious, Blushing Monk and Dissenter I'll be sad.

    1. (Your first point) No, No they dont. It could have been a sour, gose, or any other more summer style.
    2. Ill attack because this is a bogus entry to the backstage series, note I dont think it will be a bad beer. I just think it is a copout.
    3. Why would you continue buying somthing when 3 of the last 4 have been beers you did not like? Ill try it on draft but thats about it.

Nice to see from this thread that we've managed to become a community of jaded dickholes. Well played, BeerAdvocates, well played!

Another Backstage shelf turd, surprised they didn't try to add Raspberry to this beer. /s

At this point it's no surprise - underwhelmed again. After the re-release of blushing monk I thought Founders would get back on track....

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's fed up with overpriced ipa's in bombers. Bombers may be appropriate for certain beers like big stouts or sours but ipa's really should just be in 12oz bottles or cans.

I guess when I go to the store and see it on the shelf for $10, I will probably buy the exceptionally dank bottle of Stone Enjoy By for $7 that is sitting next to it...

I just don't get why this is being pitched as 'experimental & limited' - there are at least half a dozen new IPAs in bombers each week at the store. Hard to not be cynical about the marketing pitch on this

I guess Founders is hoping we all forget that a VERY similar beer was available from them in 6-packs for the same price.

EDIT: And if they really wanted to do another red ale, release bombers of BA Red's Rye. Shit was delicious.
