I just wanted to know what you guys think concerning the "General population" score(BA score) of beers compared with the "The Bros" score of beers. Are they consistent, not consistent, ect... Do The Bros play a factor in determining your overall assessment of a beer?

Generally, I value the Bros rating slightly higher than consensus. However, I value it much more highly when there score is far above the average for less popular styles, such as Doppelbocks, Pilsners, etc. I figure with their experience and lack of bias against the classic styles, their reviews are more reliable than popular consensus. Of course, I'm the ultimate judge in my own tastes, but the Bros have swayed me to pick something up at least a handful of times and have not let me down yet.

The scores are often pretty consistent, especially with a large number of reviews.

However, when they are divergent, I often give more weight to the Bros. (like @ArsMoriendiOU818 above). I tend to trust those with better palates than I or the unwashed masses (and that includes a few notable BAs, as well, whose opinions on beer I trust).

I'm with you 100% on this. A lot of the beers I like most aren't very hyped or highly rated and it puts a smile on my face to see a favorable review from the bros

Definitely agree with @ArsMoriendiOU818 - the style will influence my value of the Bros score. So will number of reviews. Something reviewed 500+ times, I'll trust the masses in a closer score discrepancy (let's say 10 points).

Something to consider also is looking at the date of the Bros review. I've found some big diffs where the Bros rated like 10 years ago.

Edit: also easier to read and to a degree trust the Bros reviews than the masses

Also agree with your take. If I'm on the fence about trying a beer that has decent ratings and I see the Bros scored it high that always tips me over the edge.

General Vote has more weight for popular styles IMO
Bros Vote has more weight for less popular ones.

Although the Bro who gave Fou a 1.5 should have his rights revoked lol.

I trust the Bros. like I trust specific reviewers here: more than the overall masses, but less than myself. I will look to them for unpopular styles more often than not, however, like all the other replies have mentioned.

I don't trust the Bros. with any "turbid" or "hazy" hoppy beer, however, since they have a history of calling those beers "unfinished." To each their own, but I know I personally love many of those beers so the point is moot.

Absolutely this right here. There are good amount of beers that have sub 80's BA avg; but the Bro's rated them high 80's or even 90's. nearly all of them I tried turned out to be absolutely delicious and spot on beers; but since a fraction of the population rates to style guidelines, relying on overall BA score for some styles is a waste of time. I routinely pick up new kolsch and pilsners etc etc in the mid 70's and they usually turn out far better than you would expect if you blindly rely on the overall score. Same goes with a lot of wheat beers and also some "macro craft" (Dundee etc)

this is when I learned that the bros and I weren't on the same page.

I put more stock in Ba scores

That's because they are unfinished. You might find you liked them even more if finished.A bright beer is a sight of real beauty, turbid beer shouts poor workmanship.

I think the bros are a terrific source for reviews. Some of their reviews are quite poetic and use an original language I found very exciting when I first joined BA. There are lots of terrific reviewers on BA. I do admit to checking out my favorites and also giving at least the first page of reviews for any beer I try a good read.

I use the Bros' scores only occasionally, but I use their written reviews frequently. As a person who writes reviews, I try to use their writing as inspiration. Also, since I have not tasted nearly as much beer as the Bros, I try to use their descriptors to find flavors in beer that I may not have found otherwise.

I discovered this site in college when I was trying to find a new beer to drink. I basically came here, looked at top rated beers, and realized I couldn't find them in somewhat rural Indiana. Then I searched and read reviews of specific beers and found good, available options for me to expand my palate. Thanks Bros!

I don't let the Bros influence my review, but they hold more weight with me than the general population. They score accurately, some on the website do not. I have said it many times review a beer that might not be a style you like with that in mind. Don't give a Saison a 1.5 if you don't like a Saison. I feel that happens often and it ruins the grade for that beer. Yes, I trust the Bros and a group of 10 or 20 other BAS most.

They started a website. Thier scores are not more important or influential to me than anyone elses. I don't even think there should be a seperate category highlighting thier scores.

I really haven't seen a score that deviates substantialy from the BAs vs the Bros. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong, lol.

I definetly put a lot of weight on the bros input for sure. One thing I keep in mind though is that a lot of the reviews they have are from quite awhile ago, so I always check when they reviewed something before reading.
