KBS was fine this year. The problem is the companies that they pick to do the sale with. There are plenty of companies that can handle the traffic.

our instagram is your friend for the behind the scenes stuff in the brewery. if you haven't, you should check it out. if you use your powers of deduction wisely, you just may indeed find out some things you're after.

this is something we will NEVER do. we structure our releases the way we do because we want to reward our locals who keep our lights on the other 364 days out of the year that aren't release days. maybe that's wrong of us, but we want to do our best to be as fair as possible to those who are most loyal to us first and foremost.

Thanks for the follow up. There is nothing wrong with that approach and frankly it is a breath of fresh air.

this was an unexpected and greatly appreciated gesture from @voodoobrewery
for me, its just another example of why they continue to be my favorite PA brewery

However, I think its a real shame that just because 1 of the beers didnt meet everyones exceedingly high expectations, that they are put in a position to feel the need to make it up to us. Blackbeard was my least favorite of the release but I certainly didnt feel like it was bad enough to warrant a refund or apology beer. Hell, ive paid more for far inferior offerings and those breweries never once seemed to care if the patrons were unhappy.

Then again, maybe im just not use to a brewery caring as much as they do. Cheers and thank you Voodoo!

@Stigs only sees ABGM in all the instagram photos, you might need a new filter for him.

I think it may have been more because there was a possible infection issue than just people not liking it.

But yeah if they'd done nothing I wouldn't have thought any less of them. Awesome gesture either way.

As long as they're doing what they can to cut down on the muling situation so more people get the opportunity to try the beer, and cater to the locals who keep their business running the rest of the year, I don't think it matters what time the releases start. 6pm, 6am, noon, they're going to sell all the beer regardless, and I think the system they used for the last release (regardless of what time sign-ups start) did a great job of getting the beer into as many hands of people who want it and regularly support the brewery as possible. And frankly I don't begrudge an allotment to the few people willing to drive 6 hours each way from Philly or NYC or whatever to sign up and then again to pick up bottles anyway. That's some serious dedication to getting a beer.
Work or family or whatever might make you miss out on this release, or it might make some other guy miss out. Ultimately it's just beer. Hopefully (probably) some of the beers will show up at a bottle share, or maybe you can split in on a buddy's allotment. And if not, you might just have to drink one of the other hundreds of awesome beers constantly available to us instead. (I'm responding to your post, but definitely not trying to single you out -- I think beer drinkers in general, myself included, get way too caught up in thinking it's a catastrophe if they miss any release.)

This is perhaps spoiled on my part because I live within reasonable distance of Voodoo, but I loved how they did the last release. No buildup or announcement months ahead of time, but a simple social media post regarding the release's details the day of. Definitely makes it easier for us PA folk to get a hold of these beers without the hassle of dealing with hordes of out of state peeps. Just look at Bullfrog's recent release to get the idea as to how far people will go for beer.

Entitlement? Of course not. I call it being lucky to live near such a fine brewery. :grinning:

saw Midnight Brett and Century Ale at House of 1k Beers for "cascade price" ($29-32 /375ml).
I was shocked. I'm used to paying ~$9-12 for those little baby bottles.
I guess this is price inflation due to travel costs outside the hinterland. Holy mackerel.

I heard people flew in for that mess and hired mules?

Bought one in Maryland I think was $12 a few weeks back

I don't disagree with any of that and I didn't think you were singling me out, I can handle thoughtful discourse.

I thought they did an amazing job last time and it sounds like they'll keep doing it that way. With all things considered, I think we can all agree that Voodoo gets just about everything right. They all miss on a beer once in a while, but they do all of the customer service things right.

Yeah, there were people from all over. Just behind me there was a large group of people from Michigan that bought the Pub Club Memberships to get a Friday allotment, and then I overheard them discussing about what time they should get their in the morning on Saturday so that they could try to get two more allotments.

There was a rumor going around that someone from California hired a few hookers to stand in line then ship him some bottles. Yes, I'm serious.
