Comparing The Bruery and Stone to Toolbox in that regard is pretty silly.

How is the Nelson "ruined"? Is there a major flaw in the beer? Are there off flavors? As far as the bar being set high, I would agree. With that comes over critiquing of beers and sometimes being jaded when our self perceived expectations are not met. I do it. Many others do. Price you pay for living in SoCal I guess.

I'm not, I'm saying that based on one bad beer, you'll write off just about every brewery around.

I didn't get to try any that I thought was "bad" but people have been saying that the GF nelson is crap. Alpine/GF was willing to put it out there, only real relation.

Just curious how you know what those bottles would taste like in a month or so.

So you are slamming a beer you never tasted, and dismissing two great local breweries because what "people" had to say but not what you tried? That's cool, plenty of other great beers out there.

I knew that was the answer--I just wanted to confirm that he did, in fact, have one.

There's a big difference between a beer being not to your taste or not what you expected and having a dominant technical brewing flaw / off flavor. I buy plenty of beers that I don't like at all and I don't have a problem with drain pouring a beer at all. I have a problem when a brewery knowingly releases something technically flawed and intentionally does not disclose that information.

man you are harsh! they didn't hide it or try to cover up that there was an off flavor, but this particular one there isnt really anything that can be done but wait it out. its what you get when you buy this type of beer.

but i have a feeling even though you aren't giving them a "free pass" over this and are here whining about it, you will STILL buy all the releases. because unfortunately thats just how beer works these days! even the haters keep on supporting the people they talk badly about.

I think his argument is that they shouldn't have served it/sold it until the off flavor had cleared up, they should've waited it out on their end rather than making the consumer wait it out, which I would tend to agree with. I understand the limitations of being a small brewery and they've held beers back before, so I don't think it's a systemic issue. For whatever reason, I think they made the wrong call. As long as they don't make a habit of it, it's not something I would hold against them.

I stopped by today to grab my bottles of Carlton. Woodwerx is no longer available on tap, whatever that's worth. I agree they should have handled this release better, they should have said something and let us decide. I'm just not writing them off for it. I do hope they learn from this.

At least it's not a pre bought society based on home brews.
