Oh we have. And that's not even the worst case scenario, because at least it was (presumably) consumed. The worst is:

"Oh my god lesss open up that hill farmstead sooo ferking awesome you're going to love it dude"

Then 5 mins after opening there's the sound of snoring and you wake up to warm, flat beer that you are compelled to have a mouthful of before pouring away

In my most drunken state, I found my now favorite beer. I remember drinking it, and instantly "sobering" up to the point to where I was telling myself "oh man.... this beer is the best beer I've ever had"

This is even better when your roommate drinks it for you under those circumstances. "We got home from the bar at 2:30 and wanted something to drink." :grimacing:

I've had this happen for sure, and this is a frustrating thing indeed. I have also woken up the following morning, observed empty bottles and thought "I have no idea on earth what those tasted like....."

Luckily, when I become silly for more alcohol I am usually (underscore "usually") hardwired to pound through refrigerator queens instead of those which I'm really excited for. Sometimes I'll even plan it out that way.

:nods: After the first few good beers I switch to liquor, usually Jägermeister, if I'm going to keep going.

That old "beer before liquor..." canard is an old wives' tale for noobs who can't pace themselves, by the way.

This is what BMC is made for. 2-3 great beers followed by PBR or what ever you fancy is the correct way to not wast good stuff.

I've found after 2-3 beers I certainly have a degraded palate. Related, I get a strong smoky aroma off some stouts after I've had a few beers that I don't get from the exact same beer otherwise. I've noticed this mostly with Founders Breakfast Stout and Mikeller's Beer Geek Breakfast.

It's a major problem when judging. Trying to keep tabs on what you've drunk earlier when you are sampling another isn't easy.
    Crackers help a bit.

Not telling anybody how to live or anything but there's always the option of stopping after 2 or 3...

I drink some AALs from time to time, but would usually prefer a lower ABV quality beer option to an AAL for long drinking days.

I agree completly. Pinner has been that for me this summer. However if it is just some beers afterwork I will start with several new/favorites and then switch to AAL if I want 1 or 2 more.

That's what session beers are all about. These parts are awash with the stuff.

Proper session beers get better over an evening. Cask bitter or mild and pilsners don't really cause palate fatigue for me. They are built better for large quantities.

Rinse with water and baking soda. Neutralizes alpha acids and malt sugar residue. I just put a tablespoon in a full water bottle and shake to have it handy. You might have to rinse with regular water and a second step.

I don't dislike shitty beer any less when I'm inebriated...so, I don't stock anything but good beer and that's what I drink all night...I may not drink something extra special, but that could be for months anyway...I'll drink anything you hand me (to an extent) because I dislike snobbery...but I won't buy it for myself...good beer tastes as good to me no matter the hour...

I don't get to the point of being drunk too often anymore (it's been since New Year's Eve), but I find this happening if I drink more than three beers over the course of a long night. Eventually, even with an hour going by between beers, it can be common for my palate to get completely worn down.
