The new ad may be among the new trend of attacking the craft market share but, I must say those dumbsh*ts made a pretty decent ad.

That seems to be attacking drinkers of the fizzy yellow beer. I'm all for that.

I feel like I should add when I say, "decent" I mean that this ad will probably be more effective than Miller Lite's "Harder to Brew because No Heavy Flavors" ad, which was absolute nonsense. At least this one has censorship.

I agree with chrisjws that this add seems to be favoring New Castle as an accessible "craft" brand rather than attacking "beer neerds."

Edit: would also never air in the U.S.

Miller Lite and other AALs, Pilsners, most lagers in general, and simpler beers are very difficult to brew, especially on the scale that Miller does. I don't like their product (though I do love lagers), but the consistency of their product and the difficulty of brewing a style in which there is no strong flavors to hide the beer behind is hard to argue with.

If the massive brew was handled by a human maybe, just maybe, he'd screw up the volume of massively quality controlled grain pellets and maybe he'd get the distribution of malts wrong. Maybe he'd forget that this weekend they were waiting to clean the lines so that the rerun could become Coors Extra Gold.

I'm sorry but when everything has been previously formulated for macro's, I have a hard time saying anything other than quality assurance and IT is a craft or even very difficult for them. (I also love lagers. My first beer was an MGD)

I just liked the profanity, even though they censored it. The ale is blah.

Haha, I like the ad. Agree that it's attacking drinkers of BMC (Newcastle too bitter or heavy? Um... I doubt that's aimed at anyone who would enjoy an Imperial Stout or DIPA).

I don't mind Newcastle. It's not a bad beer. Frankly, I think it and Guinness do as much as any beer to pull folks away from American macro lagers into something with a touch more flavor. Step 1 on the road to beer geekdom is probably one of Guinness, Newcastle, Killians (that was mine, 15 years ago), or Sam.

I love this ad because of the self depreciation. Also, I don't feel like it is aimed at "craft" beer drinkers. Having said that, I probably still wouldn't drink it if they gave it to me. I have a stong memory of not liking it 10 years ago.

Good commercial. Not sure how the intended audience is going to take it - because this is obviously not aimed at "craft beer drinkers"

I can't get around a brown ale having good coloring, and I don't care what Marquis has to say about the tradition of using coloring in English brews. I also cannot fathom buying beer in clear bottles when the manufacturer knows full well what clear bottles lends itself to.

That said, I had Newcastle in a can recently and it was not very good. Wish it were, because Newcastle beers are priced nicely and they have intriguing variety packs.

Sam, Guinness and Newcastle were my regulars in college. One thing it took me a few years to realize was how much better Newcastle is on draft since it's not exposed to all the light with the clear bottles. Not a great beer, but it'll do in a pinch. I'll drink that anytime before I drink blah lagers.
