    Greetings Houstonians.

I just moved down here from Charleston, SC. I brought a handful of Mex Cakes (and variants) down with me on my move here. I have to go back to Charleston every couple of months anyway so I hope to bring home with me several goodies from each trip. That being said I was wondering if there were any smaller scale bottle share groups (i.e. fewer than 12 people) who acquire higher end goodies. I still trade with people in different parts of the country to get uncommon or non-local beers and would love to take part in such bottle shares involving uncommon stuff (I have a dozen or so different Westbrook beers of the rarer breed that I would be happy to bring to such a bottle share group among other non-local items of uncommon variant breed such as Grey Monday, Black Tuesday, etc). I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way if this post comes off awkwardly. I just want to partake in something where I can contribute fairly along with everyone else.

    Thanks.

There are two monthly bottle shares that are posted here. Then any number of individual shares, impromptu meetings, more private events that happen at any time. The best way to get involved is to show up at one of the regular shares posted. I try to always post for the Gingerman share on the second Sunday. Several people help out with posting for the Nobi Public House share that happens the first Sunday of the month. The size varies, either can be two or three people, or up to 20+...

Both are great, and welcoming to everyone. The Gingerman share has been going on for six or seven years now, and I am always amazed at what people bring. That is in Rice Village, if you want to look up the area. The Nobi share has been going on for about a year (I think more than that now) and is always great as well. That is in Clear Lake, far south Houston. Once you get to know some people in these shares, you will figure out all the other ones that happen sporadically around town.

We're going on 2 years for the Nobi share. Otherwise everything @champ103 said is spot on.

Nice and thanks for the info. I live over near the medical center area. If the Gingerman thing is monthly, I will probably make it in August. I just moved to Houston this past Monday and I will be going back to Charleston on business in mid July so I will miss the second Sunday share in July.

My best advice is to get involved in the local beer scene. Go to some of the bigger shares such as Nobi and Gingerman, join some of the local Facebook beer groups, etc. You'll meet people and just naturally gravitate or connect to a few of the people you meet. Then you'll be able to have some of the smaller, more laid back shares you're looking for. There's at least 100 people in the Houston area that trade or somehow get limited out of market stuff and love to share it.

I will second the Nobi Pub shares. I have been to a few when I can get away from the family and they are always super friendly. People always have really good stuff. last one I went to we had Mexican Cake and someone even brought some pretty fresh Focal Banger which was F'ING AMAZEBALLS.

I want to make it to the Gingerman in July, but I just don't have any amazing beers to share. I have some '14 BBH, '14 BC Barleywine and a few others. I just don't want to get laughed out of the place.

You won't be. Bring what you want to drink and enjoy with others. Only rule is not something Gingerman has. I'll gladly drink those with you.

In addition to what @champ103 said, you can also buy food to offset. No one will object.

Just did Nobi yesterday (first Sundays of the month) and I believe second Sunday is Gingerman. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, I will probably create a thread for that later today. It will be good to see some new faces out.
